  163. 28:26

    i don't know [ __ ]

  164. 28:28

    [Laughter]

  165. 28:41

    you're the first one yes

  166. 28:45

from the 143 episodes you're the first

  167. 28:48

oh wow all right honors no i'm just

  168. 28:50

we're just kidding we're just kidding

  169. 28:51

    just kidding

  170. 28:52

and also james is not he that's really

  171. 28:55

    how he speaks in english

  172. 28:57

so please don't think that he is trying

  173. 29:00

to poke one of the english language

  174. 29:02

that's that's how he really speaks in

  175. 29:04

    english like ours

  176. 29:06

    so this is

  177. 29:18

we have live chat on youtube

  178. 29:21

so you can check that okay

  179. 29:24

see chris we don't have chemistry when

  180. 29:27

    we're talking in english

  181. 29:31

it's like we're jumping up the boat

  182. 29:38

143 episodes no no chemistry that's

  183. 29:42

    the secret of our show

  184. 29:48

    male 1 chemistry

  185. 29:52

    oh very nice

  186. 30:02

    don't go chasing waterfalls

  187. 30:19

    is it 6am yeah yeah it's 6 00 a.m um

  188. 30:22

but i get up at 3 30 so i've been up for

  189. 30:25

    two hours so

  190. 30:27

nice nice just like just like the people

  191. 30:30

    from cavite

  192. 30:31

from the woman's neighborhood they don't

  193. 30:34

    actually sleep at

  194. 30:35

all because of too much meth oh then

  195. 30:40

yeah yes yes woman has been up for two

  196. 30:43

    days

  197. 30:45

yes because at night the pusher and the

  198. 30:48

    user

  199. 30:49

    they met

  200. 30:51

    [Laughter]

  201. 30:56

    okay

  202. 30:59

that's the best job this show is very

  203. 31:02

    stupid

  204. 31:04

actually this that i think chris is now

  205. 31:06

    finally realizing the mistake

  206. 31:08

that he made by approaching us not at

  207. 31:10

all this is going to be fun

  208. 31:13

    why did you approach

  209. 31:16

we are no we'll start we'll start the

  210. 31:18

show so that we can ask him all of the

  211. 31:20

    questions i'll do it

  212. 31:21

    all right

  213. 31:29

okay so all right just like

  214. 31:33

    uh valentin soria here

  215. 31:37

which is our director in the background

  216. 31:40

is uh commenting also in youtube

  217. 31:44

valentin says hi chris message me

  218. 31:47

if you need help oh my god

  219. 31:51

  221. 31:58

okay let's go let's go okay

  222. 32:08

    look please cool

  223. 32:14

    [Laughter]

  224. 32:22

    [Music]

  225. 32:26

    foreign

  226. 32:31

    [Music]

  227. 32:38

    welcome to

  228. 32:46

    episode episode 143

  229. 32:49

    yeah all right

  230. 32:53

this is a very special episode 143

  231. 32:57

because with us is a uh

  232. 33:00

    filipino american writer and director

  233. 33:03

chris soriano please kiss rihanna please

  234. 33:05

    say hi to everyone

  235. 33:07

thank you so much good morning and good

  236. 33:08

    evening

  237. 33:13

oh my god where is my beer

  238. 33:17

your dictionary find go find your

  239. 33:19

    dictionary james

  240. 33:23

    [Music]

  241. 33:37

yes i do okay good so chris approached

  242. 33:40

    us to help him

  243. 33:41

with this uh with this movie uh coming

  244. 33:44

    out the dynasty boys

  245. 33:46

chris can you uh tell us about the movie

  246. 33:48

    first before we

  247. 33:49

    divulge into

  248. 33:53

sure the dynasty boys is about a

  249. 33:56

a filipino lead actor that's growing up

  250. 33:59

    in america

  251. 34:00

and he's surrounded by racism and hate

  252. 34:02

    crimes because of the coronavirus

  253. 34:04

and so they try to figure out how to

  254. 34:06

survive and a lot of crazy things happen

  255. 34:08

but in the end he promotes peace

  256. 34:12

nice so this is a filipino leader

  257. 34:16

    yep oh yeah okay cinema

  258. 34:20

    [Music]

  259. 34:30

can you please let's watch the trailer

  260. 34:33

    oh great this is you

  261. 34:35

this is you you're also the star yeah

  262. 34:38

    yeah

  263. 34:42

they're not gonna stop bullying us

  264. 34:44

    blacks don't like us

  265. 34:45

hey where you from covey looking ass the

  266. 34:48

    mexicans don't like us

  267. 34:51

you in the wrong place at the wrong time

  268. 34:58

so what are we gonna do

  269. 35:03

you really think we can take these guys

  270. 35:05

out you know we're gonna be the most

  271. 35:07

    hated people on the clock

  272. 35:20

    [Music]

  273. 35:34

    [Music]

  274. 35:38

at 13 i was almost killed by

  275. 35:40

    neighborhood gangs

  276. 35:41

i grew up in a rough area where you

  277. 35:43

    always had to fight to

  278. 35:45

survive and there was more going on

  279. 35:47

    between the mexican

  280. 35:48

black and asian gangs that react that i

  281. 35:51

    lived

  282. 35:52

i created into this film to show the

  283. 35:55

    world

  284. 35:56

at risk and asian americans like me come

  285. 35:59

    from

  286. 36:00

as a writer and director of dynasty boys

  287. 36:03

i wanted to create a film

  288. 36:04

to show the struggle of these young

  289. 36:07

    asian americans

  290. 36:08

and how try to stand up against the

  291. 36:10

    gangs that bully them every

  292. 36:12

day in the film a big warps out

  293. 36:15

which eventually leads these gangs to

  294. 36:17

    try to work together

  295. 36:19

to find peace with everything happening

  296. 36:21

    in the world

  297. 36:23

today peace and harder to find

  298. 36:26

asians are getting bullied with the

  299. 36:28

    coronavirus

  300. 36:29

    black people are fighting against

  301. 36:31

    extreme racism

  302. 36:33

and the country just seems more and more

  303. 36:35

    divided every day

  304. 36:36

    from bullying to racism

  305. 36:41

so that is it the movie trailer

  306. 36:44

    is the movie already finished

  307. 36:49

uh no the movie's not finished yet but

  308. 36:51

    we're still

  309. 36:52

shooting it despite this pandemic and

  310. 36:54

it's been really challenging but we

  311. 36:56

    should be done

  312. 36:57

    by november this year

  313. 37:01

why don't you have a face mask in the

  314. 37:03

    movie

  315. 37:04

    [Laughter]

  316. 37:07

they're being a little rebellious with

  317. 37:08

    no masks but pretty soon

  318. 37:14

so the movie is loosely based on

  319. 37:17

    uh true events or how

  320. 37:20

how to are the how to is the story

  321. 37:23

in your movie when it comes to the gang

  322. 37:26

    war

  323. 37:27

did the filipino americans and the

  324. 37:29

    asians really come together

  325. 37:31

or so the the movie is a fiction but

  326. 37:35

it's based on what's happening today

  327. 37:37

with this virus and these protests and

  328. 37:40

also uh the racism that's affecting

  329. 37:42

    everyone

  330. 37:43

uh it's a unique story that i just tried

  331. 37:46

    to um

  332. 37:46

at the end of the day put a moral lesson

  333. 37:49

that you know racism and any form of you

  334. 37:51

    know

  335. 37:51

disrespect on any culture is not a good

  336. 37:54

thing and so i kind of want our

  337. 37:55

    characters to show that

  338. 37:59

yeah what's the what's this current

  339. 38:01

status of racism in the u.s is it

  340. 38:04

is it worsening than ever before

  341. 38:08

yeah for some reason and you know it's

  342. 38:11

getting um you know pretty bad

  343. 38:13

um you know just the other day i

  344. 38:14

remember even going to the gas station

  345. 38:16

and this has happened to multiple people

  346. 38:17

where you know i'll be pumping gas and

  347. 38:20

you know whether it's uh a different

  348. 38:22

    race they'll see me and

  349. 38:23

these are younger people saying you know

  350. 38:25

make sure you wear your mask you know

  351. 38:26

when you're around them you know and

  352. 38:28

    them meaning you know

  353. 38:30

around who you know so uh i was born in

  354. 38:32

san diego i'm a proud filipino american

  355. 38:34

my mom's from you know pampanga my dad's

  356. 38:36

    from manila

  357. 38:38

uh i have no coronavirus and so you know

  358. 38:40

i'm like what's going on you know

  359. 38:44

oh the the so the the virus has turned

  360. 38:48

    into a race

  361. 38:49

race issue now it's not even uh

  362. 38:53

a government issue it's just simply

  363. 38:56

race issue is that correct yes yes

  364. 39:00

    that's correct

  365. 39:01

uh you know if you if you look asian you

  366. 39:03

    look filipino

  367. 39:04

they'll think you have coronavirus for

  368. 39:06

some reason some people i'm not saying

  369. 39:08

    all people

  370. 39:10

yeah yeah but we've seen some some

  371. 39:12

    newscasters filipino newscasters being

  372. 39:15

    shouted at by

  373. 39:17

by passive bias you know just saying

  374. 39:19

    that

  375. 39:20

they carry their the carriers of the

  376. 39:22

    virus and also

  377. 39:24

    it's it's pretty it's pretty tough there

  378. 39:26

you know being asian in the us

  379. 39:28

right now yeah but you know it's a

  380. 39:30

    different time

  381. 39:35

so but how tight is the filipino

  382. 39:39

    community compared to other communities

  383. 39:40

in the us when it comes to this

  384. 39:42

do filipinos come together when there's

  385. 39:45

    too much racism

  386. 39:47

um going on in the us right now

  387. 39:50

yes at first you know the filipino

  388. 39:53

community is more like you know don't

  389. 39:54

    worry about it

  390. 39:55

it's just a small thing you know it'll

  391. 39:57

go over but then you know when when more

  392. 39:59

hate crimes are happening i think you

  393. 40:01

    know

  394. 40:02

in la a filipino lady or asian it was

  395. 40:05

    punch in the face

  396. 40:06

uh by you know random people you know

  397. 40:09

you got the old lady in new york who set

  398. 40:11

    on fire so

  399. 40:12

i think they kind of categorize

  400. 40:14

filipinos as like you know they're just

  401. 40:16

asian you know so you know yeah

  402. 40:19

yeah i think that's one of the parts

  403. 40:24

    [Music]

  404. 40:28

we pretty much look like every asian

  405. 40:31

person in in asia like some of us look

  406. 40:34

    like korean

  407. 40:35

chinese mexican so yeah yeah we're

  408. 40:38

the easy target also when it comes to

  409. 40:40

    these

  410. 40:42

but you know as as as uh as a filipino

  411. 40:45

    american have you visited the

  412. 40:46

    philippines

  413. 40:47

before have you been yes yes i i visited

  414. 40:51

    um you know

  415. 40:52

uh pampanga as well as uh cavite like i

  416. 40:55

remember going to these places at 13

  417. 40:57

and and just really enjoying it my

  418. 40:59

mother took me there and i had a very

  419. 41:00

    good time

  420. 41:02

yeah so it's been a long time since

  421. 41:08

it's been a while you know i hope to

  422. 41:10

visit soon uh you know i hear a lot of

  423. 41:12

uh interesting things are happening and

  424. 41:14

you know i want to check it out

  425. 41:17

yeah yeah did we take it away again

  426. 41:21

how about yourself okay you know my my

  427. 41:23

    action plan tonight

  428. 41:24

is just to uh leave every five minutes

  429. 41:28

so this is uh the fifth minute so i'll

  430. 41:30

    just leave again

  431. 41:31

and then you just continue your

  432. 41:32

conversation chris has it always been

  433. 41:35

    this way

  434. 41:36

or did it became worse since donald

  435. 41:38

    trump became president

  436. 41:40

oh great question um i feel like it's

  437. 41:43

    it's uh

  438. 41:44

been worse since the coronavirus hit

  439. 41:46

    that's when you know

  440. 41:47

uh that people that never experience

  441. 41:49

racism all of a sudden there's a target

  442. 41:51

you know and it's just one of those

  443. 41:54

things where you could be an innocent

  444. 41:55

bystander until somebody you know says

  445. 41:57

hey go back to your country

  446. 41:58

and you're like okay you know where do i

  447. 42:00

    go

  448. 42:07

    [Laughter]

  449. 42:13

wait uh uh i'm just uh gonna check

  450. 42:17

    myself i'm still here actually

  451. 42:20

there is chris uh you you talked about

  452. 42:24

uh a little bit on your trailer that you

  453. 42:27

    were

  454. 42:28

    um

  455. 42:38

can you tell us more about that

  456. 42:41

    your experience sure

  457. 42:44

uh yeah yeah you know at 13 i was just

  458. 42:47

walking to the grocery store here

  459. 42:50

and you know a group of gangsters you

  460. 42:52

know picked me up you know they said hey

  461. 42:53

you want to hang out with us and then i

  462. 42:55

    said

  463. 42:55

sure you know i'm the only child growing

  464. 42:57

    up you know i wanted

  465. 42:59

friends i wanted to you know older

  466. 43:01

brothers you know somebody that really

  467. 43:02

    look out for me

  468. 43:03

and i didn't know that night was going

  469. 43:05

    to change my life

  470. 43:07

they take me to a park they surround me

  471. 43:09

and they said hey if you want to hang

  472. 43:10

out with us you got to fight this guy

  473. 43:12

and i said you know i don't want to

  474. 43:13

fight nobody and i just came here to

  475. 43:15

    hang out

  476. 43:15

and then pretty soon they just kicked me

  477. 43:17

out my feet i fell down

  478. 43:19

and then all 10 people just beat me up

  479. 43:22

and then after that they said you know

  480. 43:23

welcome to the family and then i was

  481. 43:25

    like man you know just

  482. 43:26

in in an instant my life changed and i

  483. 43:29

    at 13 i became a gangster i didn't even

  484. 43:31

know you know i know anything about

  485. 43:32

    gangs

  486. 43:33

and so you know that that moral lesson

  487. 43:35

    and the war

  488. 43:36

between different races and how we have

  489. 43:38

    to protect our own and

  490. 43:40

you know it just it was a weird way to

  491. 43:42

    grow up and so

  492. 43:43

my mother homeschooled me to protect me

  493. 43:45

    from all that

  494. 43:46

and and that's kind of how i live my

  495. 43:48

    life

  496. 43:50

are they white oh yeah no no

  497. 43:54

um mexican filipinos and you know

  498. 43:56

    different races but

  499. 43:58

    uh mostly mexican filipino

  500. 44:01

so is it it's yeah no no i i saw that

  501. 44:04

    you opened your mouth

  502. 44:05

    so you continue it

  503. 44:10

    uh i think that that's the 30-second

  504. 44:13

    massacre

  505. 44:14

the the one that uh chris

  506. 44:17

    christoriano telling to us uh

  507. 44:22

yeah they're going to beat you and then

  508. 44:23

after that they welcome you as a member

  509. 44:26

do you have their the the hero

  510. 44:33

are you familiar with kira pursuant

  511. 44:46

    [Laughter]

  512. 44:51

yeah it happens when you join a gang

  513. 44:53

    it's either

  514. 44:54

uh you get beaten up or you have sex

  515. 44:56

    with them

  516. 44:58

this usually happens if you're a girl

  517. 45:00

who wants to join a guy

  518. 45:02

oh wow gotcha yeah and then chris said

  519. 45:05

    you can have somebody here

  520. 45:08

    [Laughter]

  521. 45:10

i got beat up because it's a very famous

  522. 45:13

    celebrity

  523. 45:15

    what's your anime

  524. 45:21

one of the memorable one was uh me being

  525. 45:23

told to fight a group of people

  526. 45:26

and um i knew that i was not gonna win

  527. 45:29

you know i'm not bruce lee but

  528. 45:32

i would you know i had to go and fight

  529. 45:34

    and i got beat up

  530. 45:35

and that was the end so i didn't win

  531. 45:38

but i guess courage is moving despite

  532. 45:40

knowing you're going to get beat up

  533. 45:42

so chris what's what's the name of your

  534. 45:45

    gang

  535. 45:46

oh i i'm not allowed to say it you know

  536. 45:49

    just because you know they're

  537. 45:50

still out there they're still active and

  538. 45:52

you know i don't want to you know

  539. 45:54

rekindle any loss was it was it was it

  540. 45:57

hard for you to leave the gang

  541. 45:59

do they make it hard for you to lead the

  542. 46:01

gang uh i never really left and that's

  543. 46:03

the crazy part you know because

  544. 46:06

you know you just some things happen to

  545. 46:08

you so you just kind of go about your

  546. 46:10

    way and

  547. 46:11

they do their thing you do your thing

  548. 46:12

    and you know i

  549. 46:14

i'm a proud you know jesus follower so i

  550. 46:18

    just you know

  551. 46:19

jesus is my gang now i follow god

  552. 46:22

nice so jesus young member that is a

  553. 46:26

    very controversial

  554. 46:27

    statement

  555. 46:30

i think this initiation right there is

  556. 46:33

you the hand sign of yours

  557. 46:35

there you go this is the initiation wow

  558. 46:39

what what would you say if jesus christ

  559. 46:42

    had a

  560. 46:45

gun i think the hand sign of jesus is

  561. 46:47

    like this

  562. 46:49

    no

  563. 46:56

how deep were you in the gun culture uh

  564. 46:59

what what was one of the worst things

  565. 47:00

    you have done

  566. 47:01

as a gang member sure um nothing too

  567. 47:05

worse just fights you know at 13

  568. 47:07

that's where they they mold you they try

  569. 47:09

to shape you and build you

  570. 47:11

so you know if you're a young kid and

  571. 47:13

you're not an active you know you're

  572. 47:14

    just a soldier so

  573. 47:16

that's as far as i got you know nothing

  574. 47:18

    crazy no killings no stabbings

  575. 47:20

you know um once again i was just picked

  576. 47:22

    up and you know

  577. 47:23

i'm sure they do this to a lot of other

  578. 47:25

kids so some make it up the ranks and

  579. 47:27

    some don't

  580. 47:30

how did did any of your gang members

  581. 47:35

actually approach you when they saw that

  582. 47:36

you're making a movie about gangs they

  583. 47:38

were like hey chris remember me

  584. 47:40

yeah yeah it was like you know hey man

  585. 47:44

you know uh that's awesome you know so

  586. 47:46

it's like all right you know

  587. 47:48

and you go about your way you're like i

  588. 47:50

hope that's it oh they are

  589. 47:52

they are supportive they don't support

  590. 47:54

    them

  591. 47:56

they bug you and they say that is am i

  592. 47:59

    playing anyone in the

  593. 48:00

in the movie or or is there a character

  594. 48:03

    based on me is

  595. 48:04

any of their your gang friends ask you

  596. 48:06

    that oh yeah no

  597. 48:08

no they just kind of you know tell them

  598. 48:10

oh you're the guy who gets shot in the

  599. 48:12

    back

  600. 48:12

    [Laughter]

  601. 48:14

yeah no no no nothing like that nothing

  602. 48:16

    like that

  603. 48:17

okay are you still friends with i know

  604. 48:20

some of your former gang members

  605. 48:22

uh i just kind of keep my distance you

  606. 48:24

know i lived my life and you know

  607. 48:26

i'm on a different path so you know i

  608. 48:28

    respect them and

  609. 48:29

i go about my way you know i don't cause

  610. 48:31

any trouble and i just try to promote

  611. 48:33

    positivity

  612. 48:34

yeah yeah so you so you don't you don't

  613. 48:37

    reminisce with old

  614. 48:38

gang members like you know you know back

  615. 48:41

the time that we used to beat an old

  616. 48:43

people yeah that was a good time yeah

  617. 48:48

yeah no reminiscing for me do you have

  618. 48:51

    any do you have

  619. 48:52

    any attires

  620. 48:56

    or a gang member yeah

  621. 49:00

yeah you wear certain you know clothes

  622. 49:01

    and colors but you know

  623. 49:03

um when you you don't involve yourself

  624. 49:05

you don't wear the colors and you just

  625. 49:07

    wear normal clothes so

  626. 49:12

when it comes to making movies chris is

  627. 49:14

this the first movie you're making

  628. 49:15

in writing yes yes this is the first one

  629. 49:19

you know i put you know all my efforts

  630. 49:21

everything you saw in that trailer was

  631. 49:23

    all done for free

  632. 49:24

you know from actors here in la that you

  633. 49:26

    know

  634. 49:27

we're not having any jobs because of the

  635. 49:29

covid affect all of hollywood so

  636. 49:31

you know i pretty much got these actors

  637. 49:33

    together and i said

  638. 49:35

you know if we're not gonna do anything

  639. 49:37

    during this coronavirus

  640. 49:38

you know we're not gonna have any

  641. 49:40

opportunities and so you know i went up

  642. 49:42

to every single one i said let's make

  643. 49:43

    this

  644. 49:44

movie because we're not doing anything

  645. 49:46

    and the biggest

  646. 49:47

fear was you know we might get

  647. 49:48

coronavirus and i said no no we'll take

  648. 49:49

    proper precautions you know

  649. 49:51

we'll wear our mask and we have to we'll

  650. 49:52

keep our distance i'll make sure the

  651. 49:54

angle of the camera is farther away so

  652. 49:55

    we can get closer so

  653. 49:57

yeah that's pretty much how it all

  654. 49:58

    happened

  655. 50:01

filipino american you know i just want

  656. 50:04

to ask about being filipino american

  657. 50:06

writer writer director were there any

  658. 50:10

influences from the homeland like from

  659. 50:13

the philippines any actors or directors

  660. 50:15

    that you

  661. 50:15

that that you were inspired by or that

  662. 50:18

    you

  663. 50:19

try to you know watch and

  664. 50:23

absolutely um mchale red you know i saw

  665. 50:27

    his stuff

  666. 50:27

dead kids i even reached out to him you

  667. 50:29

know for inspiration i said you know i

  668. 50:32

    really appreciate your work

  669. 50:33

i emailed his father uh another

  670. 50:35

filmmaker you know that's where he

  671. 50:36

learned his skills right i mean maybe

  672. 50:38

    they passed

  673. 50:39

it down they helped each other and um

  674. 50:41

    his father connected me

  675. 50:43

with mikhail and you know it was just a

  676. 50:46

random email i sent and i said wow this

  677. 50:48

    is the beauty

  678. 50:48

of connecting with you know fellow

  679. 50:51

filipinos that have so much talent you

  680. 50:53

know we're here to help each other

  681. 50:54

and so they're he was very nice both of

  682. 50:57

    them were very nice

  683. 50:59

yeah speaking of positivity among the

  684. 51:01

    filipino communities

  685. 51:02

what other what other traits that

  686. 51:06

uh the filipino communities in the us

  687. 51:09

uh how how how do they show

  688. 51:13

    their support with each

  689. 51:16

for each other so we usually do a top

  690. 51:20

five uh filipino traits on how they

  691. 51:24

support each other can you can you give

  692. 51:26

    us

  693. 51:27

    some sure

  694. 51:30

can you back up me can you back me up

  695. 51:34

    here

  696. 51:38

wait wait chris i'll just uh i'll just

  697. 51:41

    check my uh

  698. 51:42

notes here so yeah that's it

  699. 51:54

    [Music]

  700. 51:55

in america right yeah in america

  701. 51:58

yeah um well the the filipinos here i

  702. 52:02

    feel

  703. 52:02

um the way they bring each other in is

  704. 52:05

    through collaboration

  705. 52:06

so um like for instance jessica sanchez

  706. 52:09

    is a good friend

  707. 52:10

uh of me and my girlfriend and you know

  708. 52:13

    she's uh

  709. 52:14

been like very collaborative on this

  710. 52:15

    film and so

  711. 52:17

she'll say you know hey i support you is

  712. 52:19

there anything i can do to help

  713. 52:20

you know just that reaching out and that

  714. 52:23

    humbleness

  715. 52:24

is um you know i know there's some among

  716. 52:26

filipinos and stuff like that but

  717. 52:28

um i think there's also a lot of artists

  718. 52:30

    that are very humble

  719. 52:32

and so um that's one of them another way

  720. 52:35

uh filipino americans help each other

  721. 52:36

    here

  722. 52:37

is um they look at the art that you're

  723. 52:40

    doing

  724. 52:41

and how it could benefit someone else

  725. 52:43

    with a bigger larger audience

  726. 52:44

and that's leverage they'll try to

  727. 52:46

leverage and help each other that way so

  728. 52:49

those are some of the few uh i could

  729. 52:50

think of at the top of my head

  730. 52:52

and also they're just very giving but

  731. 52:54

    the the the

  732. 52:56

filipino like the people like in

  733. 52:58

    philippines

  734. 52:59

the way they help i've seen is just

  735. 53:01

    super humble

  736. 53:02

super like for instance when we were

  737. 53:04

    filming this film

  738. 53:05

we had um you know we did it all for

  739. 53:07

    free you know so

  740. 53:08

uh the local filipino um bakeries and

  741. 53:12

the the food shops donated us so much

  742. 53:14

food so we can eat you know show pow and

  743. 53:16

    our break or

  744. 53:17

you know this wasn't gourmet you know

  745. 53:19

you know any food it was it was like the

  746. 53:21

best filipino home meal we can have

  747. 53:23

while we were acting and while we were

  748. 53:24

trying so it was really nice we even had

  749. 53:26

    like topsy look long slog

  750. 53:28

uh you know everything we wanted man

  751. 53:33

    nice nice

  752. 53:37

i'm waiting for anyone to jump in but

  753. 53:40

i guess this is me this is me no one

  754. 53:43

    wants to back me up

  755. 53:46

anyway chris you told uh you told a

  756. 53:49

    while ago that

  757. 53:49

    uh aside from

  758. 53:52

    the mayama filipino

  759. 53:56

are there any negative traits of

  760. 53:59

    uh filipinos there that um

  761. 54:03

make it hard for each uh for your

  762. 54:06

for the other phil arms to live

  763. 54:09

in the us like what we used to call crab

  764. 54:12

    mentality is

  765. 54:13

    is it rampant there uh

  766. 54:15

    [Music]

  767. 54:16

yeah that's the end of the question

  768. 54:21

    so negative experiences that american

  769. 54:24

    filipinos give

  770. 54:25

um i think you know mentality chris are

  771. 54:28

    you familiar with crab mentality

  772. 54:30

yes i believe the crab mentality is they

  773. 54:32

    don't want to help

  774. 54:33

people that come here is that is that it

  775. 54:35

    there's no

  776. 54:36

they sit down they're trying to pull you

  777. 54:38

    down because they're

  778. 54:39

    they aren't happy to see

  779. 54:42

    another person to be successful

  780. 54:45

    especially

  781. 54:47

    a filipino like them well i've i've

  782. 54:51

heard stories you know in my life i just

  783. 54:53

    haven't experienced

  784. 54:55

you know these type of people i i've met

  785. 54:57

    people that say yeah

  786. 54:59

you know i want to pull you down but you

  787. 55:01

know that that's you know with with

  788. 55:02

any race you know i feel like that's

  789. 55:04

just a it depends who your circle is

  790. 55:06

so um if there is any negative traits

  791. 55:08

    let me think um

  792. 55:10

    maybe it's a like competition like i

  793. 55:12

know some other filipino filmmakers out

  794. 55:14

    here

  795. 55:15

that you know but it's friendly um you

  796. 55:17

know they'll tell me straight up like

  797. 55:19

i'm you know you better watch out for my

  798. 55:21

film because i'm going to blow you out

  799. 55:22

    of the water man

  800. 55:23

you know that type of stuff so um it's

  801. 55:26

    more in your face

  802. 55:30

like more of a healthy competition like

  803. 55:33

    what you said not really

  804. 55:34

    uh

  805. 55:38

    like negatives yeah

  806. 55:41

experience bad mouthing but yeah yeah

  807. 55:44

    yeah

  808. 55:45

i've experienced bad math in like your

  809. 55:46

if i could curse on here i'll be the

  810. 55:48

    first one but

  811. 55:49

your film looks like [ __ ] you should

  812. 55:51

have done this or you should have done

  813. 55:52

that and i'm like all right man

  814. 55:53

you know we'll see how do you handle

  815. 55:55

    that um

  816. 56:08

    i don't know i have a saying that i

  817. 56:09

learned from the my military friends

  818. 56:11

    which is

  819. 56:11

don't talk about it be about it so and

  820. 56:14

you know i don't talk i just create

  821. 56:16

you know it's a really good yeah that's

  822. 56:18

a good that's pretty good uh extra

  823. 56:21

trade quickly yeah any more questions

  824. 56:24

    here

  825. 56:25

no i'm i'm curious now like chris

  826. 56:29

what was the last filipino movie you

  827. 56:31

    you've watched or

  828. 56:32

you've seen it could be a recent one or

  829. 56:35

    it could be

  830. 56:37

what was that uh bird shot and dead kids

  831. 56:40

and birdshot yeah all in netflix

  832. 56:44

yeah yeah i know have you have you seen

  833. 56:47

    a star

  834. 56:48

star cinema movie have you watched it's

  835. 56:52

    criticism

  836. 56:53

    [Laughter]

  837. 56:56

uh no no i haven't seen those i should i

  838. 56:59

    remember

  839. 57:00

i used to you should watch some filipino

  840. 57:01

    comedy movies from then

  841. 57:03

from the 80s and 90s all right all right

  842. 57:06

make some recommendations you know i'm

  843. 57:08

    gonna watch um

  844. 57:10

uh someone is uh asking for press one

  845. 57:13

    here because

  846. 57:14

they want me to ask question to you

  847. 57:18

press one press one for no

  848. 57:22

    no

  849. 57:25

did you eat uh yes i just have coffee

  850. 57:28

    and oatmeal in the morning

  851. 57:30

thank you so that was it

  852. 57:33

that was it that's bad that's not

  853. 57:37

    [Laughter]

  854. 57:39

you still live it your parents they used

  855. 57:41

    to live with your parents

  856. 57:42

oh no no i um you know i'm here in l.a

  857. 57:45

so i'm pursuing my dreams so

  858. 57:47

yeah are you married or uh

  859. 57:50

are you single oh i i have a girlfriend

  860. 57:53

i proposed her to become my wife so

  861. 57:55

she's my fiance if that's what you would

  862. 57:57

    yeah wow

  863. 58:05

how did you enter how did you enter

  864. 58:08

    making movies

  865. 58:16

did you understand the question yeah

  866. 58:18

    yeah i entered in the

  867. 58:19

movies um uh i i'm a big fan of quentin

  868. 58:23

tarantino and he says you know you don't

  869. 58:25

    really

  870. 58:25

have to know too much to get into the

  871. 58:27

    movie industry

  872. 58:29

you just have to know what you want and

  873. 58:31

so when i heard that interview

  874. 58:33

i said wow and he said you know when he

  875. 58:34

started he was working at a video store

  876. 58:37

you know just just renting out videos

  877. 58:39

and he became one of the greatest

  878. 58:40

directors because he had a vision

  879. 58:42

and so when i heard that i said i'm

  880. 58:44

moving to l.a i'm going to pursue this

  881. 58:46

    dream

  882. 58:46

um i think i know my strengths and one

  883. 58:48

    of my strengths is being

  884. 58:50

resourceful finding people and finding a

  885. 58:52

    way where there's a good win-win

  886. 58:54

and so i moved here to la with no

  887. 58:56

    nothing

  888. 58:57

no camera even not knowing what a lens

  889. 58:59

    is from this

  890. 59:00

but i knew the vision and so that's what

  891. 59:02

i communicated to my camera guy to my

  892. 59:05

    actors

  893. 59:05

to everything and so that's how i got

  894. 59:07

    into filming

  895. 59:09

is your crew and your actors are all

  896. 59:11

    filipino

  897. 59:13

oh uh no they're they're diverse we have

  898. 59:16

filipinos we have mexicans black people

  899. 59:19

    like

  900. 59:20

    every every race

  901. 59:23

it's nice that you mentioned quentin

  902. 59:25

    tarantino because he is

  903. 59:26

he he he loves filipino movies actually

  904. 59:30

    he's a big fan

  905. 59:32

oh wow what a blessing so so for you to

  906. 59:34

    be inspired by him

  907. 59:35

and him being inspired by filipino

  908. 59:37

    creators and directors

  909. 59:39

actually it's like a full circle right

  910. 59:40

there so it's it's so nice to see that

  911. 59:44

but you know again as a director you

  912. 59:46

    know when you write stuff

  913. 59:47

is there any filipino actor that you

  914. 59:50

    want to

  915. 59:51

work with who would that be like

  916. 59:55

oh man um you know we're still trying to

  917. 59:59

    cast

  918. 1:00:00

the the mother in this film and um

  919. 1:00:03

you know no no no no can play the matter

  920. 1:00:05

    mother no no

  921. 1:00:06

mother volano can you play the mother

  922. 1:00:09

    sure

  923. 1:00:09

sure why not that's bloody true

  924. 1:00:15

    because i also have boobs

  925. 1:00:17

    [Laughter]

  926. 1:00:21

no i'm sorry sorry for cutting you chris

  927. 1:00:23

    go ahead please

  928. 1:00:24

oh yeah no no uh you know and you know i

  929. 1:00:26

    really saw

  930. 1:00:27

um you know chris aquino or someone like

  931. 1:00:29

    that playing the mom

  932. 1:00:31

of the character you know and uh it's

  933. 1:00:33

kind of weird you know acting in it

  934. 1:00:35

while also directing it um and one of

  935. 1:00:37

    the very reasons why

  936. 1:00:39

you know i even did that was because

  937. 1:00:40

number one we can save a lot of money

  938. 1:00:42

that way we don't have to pay another

  939. 1:00:43

    actor

  940. 1:00:44

and number two filipino american we

  941. 1:00:47

    don't see

  942. 1:00:47

too much in the cinema and and number

  943. 1:00:49

    three i you know

  944. 1:00:51

i could really portray the story since

  945. 1:00:52

i've kind of lived it and i felt like

  946. 1:00:54

that'll save so much time in the

  947. 1:00:56

learning curve so i have to find

  948. 1:00:58

a mom that could look like she could be

  949. 1:00:59

    my mom in the film

  950. 1:01:02

so you so you you think that it's chris

  951. 1:01:04

aquino and then you can fit that

  952. 1:01:06

or yes i don't look like being bigger

  953. 1:01:12

i'm thinking something that looks more

  954. 1:01:13

chinese but but filipina you know

  955. 1:01:16

so i don't know because people think

  956. 1:01:17

sometimes you know i look chinese i mean

  957. 1:01:19

    apparently all these people that

  958. 1:01:21

sometimes throw racist comments when i'm

  959. 1:01:22

pumping gas i think i'm trying you know

  960. 1:01:24

    whatever

  961. 1:01:25

so but you know i respect every race yes

  962. 1:01:30

yeah chris uh let's go back to your

  963. 1:01:32

    movie and the

  964. 1:01:34

issue of racism because this is the

  965. 1:01:36

first time that we'll be going to

  966. 1:01:37

talk about racism here in in the podcast

  967. 1:01:40

    because

  968. 1:01:40

um um i i saw in the trailer that

  969. 1:01:45

uh there are different kinds of races

  970. 1:01:49

and uh different gangs per race

  971. 1:01:52

so do you think there is a hierarchy of

  972. 1:01:56

    race in the u.s and

  973. 1:01:59

how the filipino race is in that

  974. 1:02:02

    hierarchy if there is

  975. 1:02:03

any hierarchy yes i'm assuming that the

  976. 1:02:08

the first one in the in the list is the

  977. 1:02:11

the whites the caucasians yes and then

  978. 1:02:15

after that uh what do you think which

  979. 1:02:18

    race comes

  980. 1:02:19

    second oh wow

  981. 1:02:22

yes i feel you know um sometimes when i

  982. 1:02:24

grew up i used to think that

  983. 1:02:26

man there there's a hierarchy of race

  984. 1:02:28

    you know white people

  985. 1:02:29

and then minorities that's all that's

  986. 1:02:31

all it was you know we're all equal and

  987. 1:02:33

    then you know

  988. 1:02:34

but then you know as i got older you

  989. 1:02:35

know i i went to college i started being

  990. 1:02:38

    educated

  991. 1:02:39

um and to see uh a hierarchy

  992. 1:02:43

depends upon the person so for instance

  993. 1:02:46

    me now

  994. 1:02:47

um i know a bunch of white people that

  995. 1:02:50

are are not doing anything with their

  996. 1:02:52

    lives you know they're they're

  997. 1:02:53

you know trying to you know whether it's

  998. 1:02:56

they're doing drugs or they're just

  999. 1:02:58

you know living in whatever life i also

  1000. 1:03:00

know a lot of white people that are you

  1001. 1:03:01

know have a lot of businesses and

  1002. 1:03:03

    they're

  1003. 1:03:03

doing well so to look at white people

  1004. 1:03:06

    and say

  1005. 1:03:06

categorize them all as you know that's

  1006. 1:03:08

the hierarchy i don't do that now

  1007. 1:03:10

um now i just say you know the hierarchy

  1008. 1:03:15

it like shifts every day it's like a

  1009. 1:03:16

    stock market to me

  1010. 1:03:18

um and what i see is sometimes there's

  1011. 1:03:21

    asians that are

  1012. 1:03:21

higher than whites or whites that are

  1013. 1:03:23

higher than asians you know um

  1014. 1:03:25

in america it's so diverse that you can

  1015. 1:03:27

see a guy pull up an alexis a white guy

  1016. 1:03:30

but then a chinese person pull up in a

  1017. 1:03:31

lamborghini next to that white guy

  1018. 1:03:33

and then a black person pulls up in a

  1019. 1:03:35

mercedes suv you're like who here has

  1020. 1:03:37

    money i never really know

  1021. 1:03:38

so sorry to answer the question filipino

  1022. 1:03:41

    eating lumpia

  1023. 1:03:47

    anymore to answer the question

  1024. 1:03:51

okay so it's okay because uh the

  1025. 1:03:53

    impression from

  1026. 1:03:55

the philippines is that that's why i

  1027. 1:03:58

    asked that question is because

  1028. 1:03:59

our impression is that there's racism

  1029. 1:04:02

    that's why

  1030. 1:04:03

yes yes and i want to know from you

  1031. 1:04:07

on how do you determine if there if a

  1032. 1:04:10

person is racist do you do you see

  1033. 1:04:12

it from outside are there any top five

  1034. 1:04:15

    qualifications

  1035. 1:04:17

if there is if a person is racist uh

  1036. 1:04:20

uh let me let's say uh if the person is

  1037. 1:04:23

wearing a white hoodie that is uh

  1038. 1:04:38

if you make jokes about race during the

  1039. 1:04:40

u.s are you considered to be a racist

  1040. 1:04:43

because here in the philippines we make

  1041. 1:04:44

    jokes about races every time

  1042. 1:04:46

just for the heck of it yeah you see

  1043. 1:04:48

    that's a great question both

  1044. 1:04:50

questions that you said what are

  1045. 1:04:51

qualifications of a racist as well as if

  1046. 1:04:53

    you make a joke

  1047. 1:04:54

are you a racist i think you know with

  1048. 1:04:56

stand-up comedy what even some of you do

  1049. 1:04:58

is such a beautiful thing because in

  1050. 1:05:00

    america we appreciate also the

  1051. 1:05:02

freedom of speech so you know if you're

  1052. 1:05:04

    gonna say a joke

  1053. 1:05:05

and it's a joke i mean take it for what

  1054. 1:05:07

    it is it's a joke i don't

  1055. 1:05:09

you know i think a racist is determined

  1056. 1:05:11

    by their actions

  1057. 1:05:12

as well as their words um and so you

  1058. 1:05:15

    know

  1059. 1:05:16

    that's my answer to that

  1060. 1:05:22

    [Laughter]

  1061. 1:05:27

you know what i'm scanning my uh my

  1062. 1:05:30

    instagram because

  1063. 1:05:33

one person message us you we usually

  1064. 1:05:37

um label it as an essay

  1065. 1:05:41

if there is a if there's a rant

  1066. 1:05:44

when it comes to our one of our episodes

  1067. 1:05:47

    if we are

  1068. 1:05:48

going to we if we are borderline

  1069. 1:05:50

    offensive or we have offended

  1070. 1:05:52

anyone so there is one message here

  1071. 1:05:54

    there was this one time

  1072. 1:05:56

yeah one time that it came from a person

  1073. 1:06:00

living in the us also um and i can't

  1074. 1:06:03

find it anywhere what is what is the

  1075. 1:06:05

    name of that no no

  1076. 1:06:07

um i mean basically go go

  1077. 1:06:10

yeah because you want me to explain uh

  1078. 1:06:13

    no no i'm i'm i'm searching i i want it

  1079. 1:06:16

    to be

  1080. 1:06:17

    verbatim verbatim

  1081. 1:06:21

    and racism at colorism

  1082. 1:06:25

    la luna james

  1083. 1:06:31

so um can you teach us

  1084. 1:06:34

what is colorism and what is racism and

  1085. 1:06:37

    what

  1086. 1:06:37

is the difference between those because

  1087. 1:06:39

we want to be a better person

  1088. 1:06:41

we don't want to be a racist in each of

  1089. 1:06:44

    episodes that we have

  1090. 1:06:45

and we don't want to be labeled as

  1091. 1:06:47

    something that

  1092. 1:06:48

is not that it's not us

  1093. 1:06:51

    [Laughter]

  1094. 1:06:54

do you know what i'm saying right i just

  1095. 1:06:57

    think the

  1096. 1:06:57

obvious or the simple thing is when you

  1097. 1:06:59

talk about people with different colors

  1098. 1:07:01

you know like oh that guy's dark you

  1099. 1:07:03

know they'll never be as good as the

  1100. 1:07:05

    light-skinned people

  1101. 1:07:06

i think you could go into that territory

  1102. 1:07:08

but like if you're talking more so of

  1103. 1:07:10

    like you know

  1104. 1:07:11

all i know filipinos just love i don't

  1105. 1:07:14

    know

  1106. 1:07:15

lumpia you know that would be you know

  1107. 1:07:17

racist because that's not true right

  1108. 1:07:19

not all filipinos like lumpia i mean you

  1109. 1:07:22

    know whatever so

  1110. 1:07:23

when you generalize a certain race

  1111. 1:07:25

you're going into racism territory when

  1112. 1:07:27

    you talk about color

  1113. 1:07:28

you know all you know whatever you're

  1114. 1:07:30

darker this and this and that

  1115. 1:07:31

you know you get into that so so if you

  1116. 1:07:34

    generalize

  1117. 1:07:36

that that is where you become labeled as

  1118. 1:07:39

    a racist or a colorist

  1119. 1:07:41

    is that a word colorist

  1120. 1:07:44

    colorist

  1121. 1:07:47

in terms of editing when i come oh yeah

  1122. 1:07:51

i've never been i've never been called

  1123. 1:07:54

    or

  1124. 1:07:54

nobody's ever said hey are you

  1125. 1:07:56

    colorizing that person uh but

  1126. 1:07:58

you know i'm sure it might exist yeah

  1127. 1:08:02

yeah because um i think did you

  1128. 1:08:05

understand the message because he is uh

  1129. 1:08:07

ranting or is complaining about me

  1130. 1:08:10

um always uh teasing no no about his

  1131. 1:08:13

    scholar

  1132. 1:08:14

so not only you are so black even people

  1133. 1:08:17

    from saudi james

  1134. 1:08:20

    let's just focus on

  1135. 1:08:27

after that conversation i messaged that

  1136. 1:08:29

    person then

  1137. 1:08:30

uh i said uh after this message please

  1138. 1:08:34

    loot me

  1139. 1:08:35

    a a bunch of nights

  1140. 1:08:38

    [Laughter]

  1141. 1:08:42

no i think i think you know you can call

  1142. 1:08:44

it whatever it could be racism

  1143. 1:08:46

color calories your races but the root

  1144. 1:08:50

the root of all of this is hate so if if

  1145. 1:08:53

    what you do is

  1146. 1:08:54

is because of hate then it could be

  1147. 1:08:57

    categorized as

  1148. 1:08:58

    as racism or or

  1149. 1:09:02

anything like that but in our case since

  1150. 1:09:04

we're friends you know when we joke

  1151. 1:09:06

    about

  1152. 1:09:07

things like this there's no hate when we

  1153. 1:09:09

    joke about

  1154. 1:09:10

uh you know no no or you so

  1155. 1:09:13

it comes out as a joke really he could

  1156. 1:09:16

    have told us

  1157. 1:09:17

that db when the issue came up

  1158. 1:09:20

you could have told us that no no james

  1159. 1:09:22

didn't sleep for two days because

  1160. 1:09:27

i was deriving from fossil fuels

  1161. 1:09:31

    being comedians

  1162. 1:09:34

    um

  1163. 1:09:42

    [Music]

  1164. 1:09:43

it depends you know it depends if they

  1165. 1:09:46

you know you know your friends more than

  1166. 1:09:47

    anyone

  1167. 1:09:48

so it may offend them if you say

  1168. 1:09:50

something that they're too touchy about

  1169. 1:09:52

    so

  1170. 1:09:53

uh to me it's i i just avoid those kind

  1171. 1:09:55

    of jokes with any race

  1172. 1:09:56

um maybe when i was 14 15 yeah i'll talk

  1173. 1:09:59

    about race all day but

  1174. 1:10:00

the older i get the more you know i

  1175. 1:10:02

guess knowledgeable i get that you know

  1176. 1:10:04

some people are going to be really

  1177. 1:10:05

    offended

  1178. 1:10:06

but the friends that i know that don't

  1179. 1:10:08

care i'll race it up all day you know

  1180. 1:10:10

    just joking

  1181. 1:10:11

all right yeah see because because chris

  1182. 1:10:14

    uh you know

  1183. 1:10:16

there is uh i think filipinos

  1184. 1:10:19

here in the philippines don't understand

  1185. 1:10:21

    yet the ra

  1186. 1:10:22

racism fully they don't fully understand

  1187. 1:10:26

    it yet because

  1188. 1:10:27

um there is a there is also an instance

  1189. 1:10:30

    here that one of

  1190. 1:10:31

    an influencer um said

  1191. 1:10:34

    the n-word oh right right

  1192. 1:10:38

but he was he was just uttering

  1193. 1:10:41

a lyrics from a song ah

  1194. 1:10:45

okay so but but he was

  1195. 1:10:48

    already being cancelled on twitter

  1196. 1:10:51

    because of that

  1197. 1:10:52

    incident so from that

  1198. 1:10:55

    example do you think it

  1199. 1:10:59

is right it is it was justified that he

  1200. 1:11:02

    was cancelled because of that

  1201. 1:11:04

incident i i feel that if somebody is

  1202. 1:11:08

going to say that that word

  1203. 1:11:10

uh you know and offend someone i mean if

  1204. 1:11:13

    you're

  1205. 1:11:14

black i guess you have you know the

  1206. 1:11:15

approval to say it but i know even a lot

  1207. 1:11:17

    of black people

  1208. 1:11:18

that don't even say that you know they

  1209. 1:11:19

just they just you know it depends upon

  1210. 1:11:21

    the person

  1211. 1:11:22

quentin tarantino writes that stuff in

  1212. 1:11:24

his scripts all the time you know

  1213. 1:11:26

like there's like 300 n words in the

  1214. 1:11:28

    script sometimes you know

  1215. 1:11:29

um so uh i just it depends on the motive

  1216. 1:11:33

is it fair that he was cancelled i mean

  1217. 1:11:37

some people think it's fair some people

  1218. 1:11:39

    think it's not i wouldn't

  1219. 1:11:41

    i mean i don't even know man that's a

  1220. 1:11:42

tough one because if i say

  1221. 1:11:44

it's not fair people are going to be

  1222. 1:11:46

like oh chris if people if i say it's

  1223. 1:11:47

fair people are going to be like man is

  1224. 1:11:49

    this chris guy racist so

  1225. 1:11:50

    i don't know i just that's a tough

  1226. 1:11:52

    question

  1227. 1:11:54

so so even if it's in a song so

  1228. 1:11:59

and yeah i mean there have been times

  1229. 1:12:02

    you know

  1230. 1:12:02

when i was a kid you know i hear rap of

  1231. 1:12:05

    course

  1232. 1:12:06

you're rapping along the songs you don't

  1233. 1:12:07

    know what's right um so

  1234. 1:12:09

i mean uh yeah that's a tough one man

  1235. 1:12:12

yeah so for for you if you

  1236. 1:12:16

if there is uh a lyrics that says the

  1237. 1:12:19

    n-word

  1238. 1:12:20

you will skip that one personally

  1239. 1:12:23

oh man for me uh you know

  1240. 1:12:27

    it's it's a tough one i mean i've

  1241. 1:12:29

listened to it i've had you know i've

  1242. 1:12:31

    heard

  1243. 1:12:31

heard it you know who hasn't you know

  1244. 1:12:34

came across a line in the surrounding

  1245. 1:12:36

    world

  1246. 1:12:38

i think that's when you just put on the

  1247. 1:12:40

air conditioning in your car and then

  1248. 1:12:42

you you sing along to it by yourself you

  1249. 1:12:44

    know

  1250. 1:12:47

when it is not in the crowd or by riding

  1251. 1:12:49

    the bus

  1252. 1:12:50

or in the train exactly exactly

  1253. 1:12:53

because sometimes you do you grab music

  1254. 1:12:57

sometimes you feel the music also when

  1255. 1:13:00

you know you feel you know you feel what

  1256. 1:13:02

    he's talking about

  1257. 1:13:03

and just rap with it and then you just

  1258. 1:13:06

    sometimes you

  1259. 1:13:07

break it out but when someone calls you

  1260. 1:13:09

out then i guess that's the time you

  1261. 1:13:11

stop but you know when you do it in the

  1262. 1:13:12

    privacy of

  1263. 1:13:13

your own home and just enjoying the

  1264. 1:13:14

music i guess there's nothing wrong with

  1265. 1:13:16

    that

  1266. 1:13:17

right like because sorry chris go ahead

  1267. 1:13:20

no no i'm just gonna say like for

  1268. 1:13:21

    instance in that movie um

  1269. 1:13:23

with jackie chan and chris tucker and

  1270. 1:13:25

you know rush hour and he goes you know

  1271. 1:13:27

    what's up my man

  1272. 1:13:28

and then pretty soon they get in the

  1273. 1:13:30

    fight you know i mean

  1274. 1:13:31

what makes that fair for jackie chan to

  1275. 1:13:33

    even say that

  1276. 1:13:34

and nobody's saying cancel culture on

  1277. 1:13:36

    him oh because it was

  1278. 1:13:37

in the context of comedy oh so you know

  1279. 1:13:40

    a guy

  1280. 1:13:40

saying it on his own in a song i guess

  1281. 1:13:43

    that so there's boundaries i guess i'm

  1282. 1:13:45

still learning the rules you know

  1283. 1:13:47

    yeah but yeah actually you're

  1284. 1:13:50

already in the u.s and you're still

  1285. 1:13:52

    learning the rules

  1286. 1:13:53

how about we in the philippines

  1287. 1:13:57

we still do not fully understand the

  1288. 1:14:00

    rules yet

  1289. 1:14:01

we may never understand it we may never

  1290. 1:14:03

    understand it and i'm really

  1291. 1:14:05

curious and i'm really i really want to

  1292. 1:14:07

know and i really want to learn

  1293. 1:14:10

um if there is a line what is the line

  1294. 1:14:13

    between racism and um

  1295. 1:14:16

and and uh which is acceptable or not

  1296. 1:14:20

    so it it i can't

  1297. 1:14:23

wrap my head around it oh my god

  1298. 1:14:33

when we watch dynasty boys ah yeah there

  1299. 1:14:36

    you go

  1300. 1:14:37

    amen amen i think that's i think that's

  1301. 1:14:40

    that's what

  1302. 1:14:41

we all need to to uh do that's why i

  1303. 1:14:43

think that's the reason why we're all

  1304. 1:14:44

    here meeting

  1305. 1:14:45

you know yeah talking to chris is

  1306. 1:14:47

    because we

  1307. 1:14:48

actually need this kind of movie in

  1308. 1:14:51

    philippine

  1309. 1:14:52

in the philippines screen you know we

  1310. 1:14:54

    need for people to understand

  1311. 1:14:56

the concept of racism how it's affecting

  1312. 1:14:58

    everyone

  1313. 1:15:00

and and how it's also visible in our

  1314. 1:15:02

    country

  1315. 1:15:04

so obviously this is going to be one one

  1316. 1:15:07

    nice

  1317. 1:15:07

    entertaining an informative movie for

  1318. 1:15:10

    all of us

  1319. 1:15:12

yeah especially here in the philippines

  1320. 1:15:15

chris how do okay no no uh chris

  1321. 1:15:19

uh after you you finished this movie

  1322. 1:15:26

yes my goal you know right now we're

  1323. 1:15:28

    seeing the

  1324. 1:15:29

just me being here in hollywood we're

  1325. 1:15:30

    seeing a new industry change

  1326. 1:15:32

where movies aren't going straight to

  1327. 1:15:34

the theaters and so they're going

  1328. 1:15:36

straight to video on demand so you can

  1329. 1:15:38

watch it um you know i pray that

  1330. 1:15:40

when we're done we could immediately

  1331. 1:15:42

    take it straight to distribution

  1332. 1:15:44

on video on demand whether it be amazon

  1333. 1:15:46

    prime

  1334. 1:15:47

or you know netflix so i want to take it

  1335. 1:15:50

    straight there

  1336. 1:15:50

so that i don't have to wait a year to

  1337. 1:15:53

    get it

  1338. 1:15:54

into the theaters and to you know my

  1339. 1:15:56

goal is just to get this all over the

  1340. 1:15:58

world as fast as we can uh

  1341. 1:15:59

forget the red carpet forget all this

  1342. 1:16:01

picture taken let's just give the people

  1343. 1:16:03

the movie so we can move

  1344. 1:16:04

make the next move you know

  1345. 1:16:07

yeah gb no no why are your questions

  1346. 1:16:10

    leading to ending the program

  1347. 1:16:12

it's like you want to end the program no

  1348. 1:16:15

no no no no no no no no no no

  1349. 1:16:17

    let me speak

  1350. 1:16:34

explored the behind the scenes of comedy

  1351. 1:16:36

inside in the country in tower let's sit

  1352. 1:16:38

down with host aaron crystal but as we

  1353. 1:16:40

    learned about the craft

  1354. 1:16:41

of comedy through the eyes of our local

  1355. 1:16:43

    writers

  1356. 1:16:44

and also the new west member one of the

  1357. 1:16:46

newest members of the podcast network

  1358. 1:16:48

  1359. 1:16:50

  1360. 1:16:52

    usapan retro

  1361. 1:16:53

    it's like it's like a baton 90's but it

  1362. 1:16:57

    is in a full-blown

  1363. 1:16:59

podcast um podcast format and of course

  1364. 1:17:03

all of it cannot be possible without

  1365. 1:17:05

    podcast network that asia visit

  1366. 1:17:08

  1372. 1:17:21

  1373. 1:17:22

of course i want to direct this segue to

chicana podcast if you are a podcaster

  1375. 1:17:28

    go to padmetrics.com and use

  1376. 1:17:30

our file code coolpiles all right let's

  1377. 1:17:33

go back to chris again and i will really

  1378. 1:17:35

    want to talk about racism

  1379. 1:17:38

    yeah let's have a question

  1380. 1:17:42

    yes

  1381. 1:17:57

that's a um great great uh perspective

  1382. 1:18:00

    because

  1383. 1:18:02

when you go to jail not that you know

  1384. 1:18:04

    i've went to jail

  1385. 1:18:05

but you know i know people in jail and

  1386. 1:18:08

    when you go there

  1387. 1:18:10

you assimilate to your kind as a

  1388. 1:18:12

    survival

  1389. 1:18:13

you know i don't know what it's like in

  1390. 1:18:15

the philippines but in america you just

  1391. 1:18:16

    have different races

  1392. 1:18:17

the the black americans the mexican

  1393. 1:18:19

    americans the asian americans

  1394. 1:18:21

uh asian americans and pacific islanders

  1395. 1:18:23

    they stick together

  1396. 1:18:24

in there the mexicans they stick

  1397. 1:18:25

together and the black people stick

  1398. 1:18:26

    together

  1399. 1:18:27

so you know it's very rare you'll see

  1400. 1:18:29

    you know somebody cross over

  1401. 1:18:32

so is race a factor when joining a gang

  1402. 1:18:36

i would say most often times yes it's a

  1403. 1:18:39

    factor for survival it's

  1404. 1:18:40

i mean even when you look at the history

  1405. 1:18:42

of how some of these asian gangs formed

  1406. 1:18:44

they did it because they were being

  1407. 1:18:45

bullied by other people and they just

  1408. 1:18:48

needed a band together because you know

  1409. 1:18:50

    they realized they're they're stronger

  1410. 1:18:52

    together

  1411. 1:18:53

chris how do how did you discuss

  1412. 1:18:57

the topic of racism in your how deep

  1413. 1:19:00

did you discuss your topic of racism in

  1414. 1:19:03

    your

  1415. 1:19:04

    movie um and what

  1416. 1:19:08

what do you expect the audience would

  1417. 1:19:11

    feel

  1418. 1:19:11

after they see your movie what are the

  1419. 1:19:14

    lessons

  1420. 1:19:16

are you expecting for them to learn uh

  1421. 1:19:19

    one of the main lessons

  1422. 1:19:20

is that uh an individual is

  1423. 1:19:24

um not responsible for the group that

  1424. 1:19:26

    they represent

  1425. 1:19:27

you know that's sometimes what we see

  1426. 1:19:29

    like we'll see like a

  1427. 1:19:30

oh you know let's just for example a

  1428. 1:19:32

    white lady saying something about

  1429. 1:19:34

    filipinos you know

  1430. 1:19:36

and then we get offended and we say man

  1431. 1:19:38

all white people are like that

  1432. 1:19:39

you know i'm trying to show unique

  1433. 1:19:41

    perspective that sometimes

  1434. 1:19:43

    that individual doesn't represent the

  1435. 1:19:44

    whole group so

  1436. 1:19:46

how how deep are we going we're we're

  1437. 1:19:49

    tackling

  1438. 1:19:50

you know how does someone experience

  1439. 1:19:53

    racism for the first time

  1440. 1:19:54

you see these group of kids innocent

  1441. 1:19:56

    they're living life covered hits

  1442. 1:19:58

and all of a sudden people are hitting

  1443. 1:19:59

them all these hate crimes and

  1444. 1:20:01

racial slurs so what you'll see is a a

  1445. 1:20:04

    different character from beginning to

  1446. 1:20:05

    end

  1447. 1:20:06

and a tragic thing that happens um a

  1448. 1:20:09

hate crime you know somebody dies

  1449. 1:20:11

and then where does revenge come in so

  1450. 1:20:13

you'll see you know street culture

  1451. 1:20:15

    you'll see

  1452. 1:20:16

    racism you'll see filipino culture

  1453. 1:20:18

    you'll see even

  1454. 1:20:19

    there's a scene um and i won't ruin it

  1455. 1:20:21

    i'll end it here where

  1456. 1:20:22

even the chinese guy and our main

  1457. 1:20:24

    character filipino guy

  1458. 1:20:26

you know he's like man that's you know

  1459. 1:20:28

    we have chopal

  1460. 1:20:29

and the chinese guy's like man we have

  1461. 1:20:31

bao you stole that from us and then you

  1462. 1:20:32

    know even they're

  1463. 1:20:34

debating over a simple piece of show pal

  1464. 1:20:35

right who made it first so

  1465. 1:20:37

    simple things like that

  1466. 1:20:42

are you portraying a filipino in the

  1467. 1:20:43

    movie chris

  1468. 1:20:45

    a filipino american who's even

  1469. 1:20:47

    struggling to speak tagalog

  1470. 1:20:49

and his mom is telling why don't you

  1471. 1:20:50

learn and you know the cultural things

  1472. 1:20:52

    there you know

  1473. 1:20:53

is is very powerful uh just because i

  1474. 1:20:55

    feel like a lot of

  1475. 1:20:57

    uh filipino americans including myself

  1476. 1:20:59

we don't speak tagalog you know and i'm

  1477. 1:21:01

i'm doing everything i can to learn

  1478. 1:21:03

because i really believe i must learn

  1479. 1:21:05

    the language i want to

  1480. 1:21:07

    you know chris um

  1481. 1:21:10

    from the way you answer

  1482. 1:21:26

is already kicking in no no uh seriously

  1483. 1:21:30

i think from the way you answer chris

  1484. 1:21:32

this is just a short synthesis

  1485. 1:21:34

for everyone to pander about no um

  1486. 1:21:38

the way chris answers is that he doesn't

  1487. 1:21:41

    directly answer

  1488. 1:21:42

    our question no

  1489. 1:21:45

no and this is a good thing because uh

  1490. 1:21:48

our question to tell you honestly is

  1491. 1:21:50

    directed to a stereotype

  1492. 1:21:53

but you are answering in a more personal

  1493. 1:21:56

    way that you

  1494. 1:21:57

    that that every individual

  1495. 1:22:00

    every person is unique no

  1496. 1:22:03

and you are not directly uh

  1497. 1:22:07

um pointing the race of that person

  1498. 1:22:11

so that's what i think uh from from the

  1499. 1:22:14

    perspective of your movie

  1500. 1:22:16

uh that like what you said a while ago

  1501. 1:22:18

    that uh

  1502. 1:22:21

every person is unique yes and that it

  1503. 1:22:24

    depends

  1504. 1:22:25

    is that correct chris yes

  1505. 1:22:28

that's right thank you thank you james

  1506. 1:22:32

    james

  1507. 1:22:35

    you sound like a congressman

  1508. 1:22:40

    right is it bloody true

  1509. 1:22:44

i love it okay i rest my gate

  1510. 1:22:46

    [Laughter]

  1511. 1:22:48

chris we've been asking you so many

  1512. 1:22:50

questions about racism and how it is in

  1513. 1:22:53

    in in the us

  1514. 1:22:55

do you have any questions for us you

  1515. 1:22:56

know it's been a long time since you've

  1516. 1:22:58

    been in the philippines

  1517. 1:22:59

of some myths that you want to be

  1518. 1:23:01

    clarified

  1519. 1:23:02

how long has it been chris since you

  1520. 1:23:03

know last minute oh i was 13 i'm 31 now

  1521. 1:23:08

so a long time and um i i you know

  1522. 1:23:11

i have a lot i mean one of my questions

  1523. 1:23:13

    is um

  1524. 1:23:16

it's more so statements and questions

  1525. 1:23:18

    like i want

  1526. 1:23:19

i feel like i hear a lot of um filipinos

  1527. 1:23:23

that tell me you know oh in the

  1528. 1:23:24

    philippines you know there's a

  1529. 1:23:26

    divide between you know filipino

  1530. 1:23:28

    americans going there

  1531. 1:23:29

um and because they're not you know

  1532. 1:23:31

they're not the true filipinos they

  1533. 1:23:33

    don't speak tagalog

  1534. 1:23:34

you know and um amboy you know like

  1535. 1:23:36

    there's a show off

  1536. 1:23:38

and stuff and i want to learn is that

  1537. 1:23:40

true and like why is that

  1538. 1:23:42

the how come we're going there showing

  1539. 1:23:44

off right we should be going there

  1540. 1:23:46

humbly we're all equal and so i'm trying

  1541. 1:23:49

    to understand that dynamic

  1542. 1:23:50

so um what is the perspective of like a

  1543. 1:23:53

    filipino american

  1544. 1:23:55

going to the philippines with the locals

  1545. 1:23:57

is it you know welcome or is it more

  1546. 1:23:59

like ah this guy what's he doing here go

  1547. 1:24:00

    back to america where

  1548. 1:24:02

you know you abandoned us or something

  1549. 1:24:03

you know like that type of perspective

  1550. 1:24:05

    i don't i don't really think that

  1551. 1:24:06

happens it only becomes a big issue when

  1552. 1:24:08

    it comes to basketball

  1553. 1:24:10

    oh okay yeah yeah because

  1554. 1:24:25

because philippine basketball it came to

  1555. 1:24:27

a point where we tend to naturalize

  1556. 1:24:30

uh foreigners even even black americans

  1557. 1:24:34

    because

  1558. 1:24:34

you know what they're really good in

  1559. 1:24:36

basketball we tend to naturalize them as

  1560. 1:24:38

    filipino citizens

  1561. 1:24:39

so they can play for the philippine team

  1562. 1:24:41

and it really becomes a big issue here

  1563. 1:24:43

    in the philippines

  1564. 1:24:44

because a lot of local filipino talents

  1565. 1:24:46

don't get the stage time they deserve

  1566. 1:24:49

so so only when it comes to basketball

  1567. 1:24:52

i believe women because women has a

  1568. 1:24:55

    basketball court on this house

  1569. 1:24:59

but also we have this thing called the

  1570. 1:25:02

    pinoy pride which is

  1571. 1:25:04

so big here in the philippines even if

  1572. 1:25:06

    you are already

  1573. 1:25:08

just uh a drop of blood filipino

  1574. 1:25:11

we will celebrate you yes we will

  1575. 1:25:13

    celebrate you know

  1576. 1:25:15

    even your most mundane successes

  1577. 1:25:19

yeah even if you your nanny is just a

  1578. 1:25:22

    filipino and you're

  1579. 1:25:23

a full-blooded white guy and your nanny

  1580. 1:25:26

is a filipino we will celebrate your

  1581. 1:25:28

    success

  1582. 1:25:29

and then for such celebration we will

  1583. 1:25:32

    teach you how to

  1584. 1:25:32

drink uh on the street like the tageta

  1585. 1:25:36

    guy

  1586. 1:25:39

    hey chris uh there's a question there's

  1587. 1:25:41

    a question here in the

  1588. 1:25:43

the comment section uh because recently

  1589. 1:25:47

    there is a

  1590. 1:25:48

there is a um an issue

  1591. 1:25:52

    with cultural appropriation on filipino

  1592. 1:25:56

community uh with regards to the

  1593. 1:26:00

    new york restaurant the barcada

  1594. 1:26:04

restaurant did you hear about that

  1595. 1:26:07

    um four white guys

  1596. 1:26:10

um started up a restaurant started up a

  1597. 1:26:13

    restaurant and they named it

  1598. 1:26:15

barcada which means friends in filipino

  1599. 1:26:20

    so then the phil um

  1600. 1:26:23

uh ranted about it on the internet

  1601. 1:26:27

and called it uh inappropriate and uh

  1602. 1:26:31

    calling it out as cultural

  1603. 1:26:32

    inappropriation

  1604. 1:26:34

because um putting up a barcada a

  1605. 1:26:38

    filipino language on your

  1606. 1:26:39

using a filipino language in your

  1607. 1:26:41

    restaurant without any hint

  1608. 1:26:43

    of a filipino

  1609. 1:26:46

traits on your menu or your staff

  1610. 1:26:51

    it's just cultural inappropriation can

  1611. 1:26:53

can you tell us briefly what is your

  1612. 1:26:55

    uh reaction about that um

  1613. 1:26:59

you know first off i can respect that

  1614. 1:27:01

    the person was upset

  1615. 1:27:03

you know saying hey man these are white

  1616. 1:27:05

    people using our name

  1617. 1:27:06

um similarly i can also hear the stories

  1618. 1:27:09

of the people in the streets

  1619. 1:27:11

where you know a lot of um whether

  1620. 1:27:13

they're gangsters or anybody like that

  1621. 1:27:15

are saying hey man these hollywood

  1622. 1:27:16

directors man that they're taking our

  1623. 1:27:18

stories and they're making money off of

  1624. 1:27:19

    our stories

  1625. 1:27:20

so you know i think people will always

  1626. 1:27:23

have their opinions on this type of

  1627. 1:27:24

    thing

  1628. 1:27:25

but also i mean i'm seeing it as you

  1629. 1:27:27

    know you're seeing these

  1630. 1:27:29

white people what they are creating a

  1631. 1:27:31

    restaurant

  1632. 1:27:32

promoting the filipino brand i mean

  1633. 1:27:34

    promoting the name

  1634. 1:27:35

as long as there's you know authentic

  1635. 1:27:37

filipino food there as long as there's

  1636. 1:27:39

    some sort of

  1637. 1:27:40

effort to give back to filipinos giving

  1638. 1:27:42

    them jobs

  1639. 1:27:43

doing a good win-win instead of just

  1640. 1:27:45

    taking away from us

  1641. 1:27:47

slapping the name and not even you know

  1642. 1:27:50

if i went in there there ain't no

  1643. 1:27:51

    filipino was working there

  1644. 1:27:52

and if i went in there and the guy

  1645. 1:27:53

doesn't even care about the filipino

  1646. 1:27:55

    culture

  1647. 1:27:55

then of course i'd be offended so i i'd

  1648. 1:27:57

    have to do more research

  1649. 1:27:59

on on what he's doing uh but i would you

  1650. 1:28:02

    know have a detective eye

  1651. 1:28:03

to make sure that you know is he ripping

  1652. 1:28:05

off our brand and something like that

  1653. 1:28:10

fair enough yeah i think there was

  1654. 1:28:12

    nothing filipino about that restaurant

  1655. 1:28:14

just the name right oh man yeah

  1656. 1:28:17

that would be a problem in my opinion

  1657. 1:28:19

just because i feel like that's

  1658. 1:28:21

that that could you know offend you know

  1659. 1:28:23

    some people like come on

  1660. 1:28:24

right i mean you rip the name off it

  1661. 1:28:27

hints to the philippines and you can't

  1662. 1:28:28

    even give us the respect

  1663. 1:28:30

to give us a job or something that has

  1664. 1:28:32

to deal with us or a win-win

  1665. 1:28:33

i'm probably gonna side well i'm gonna

  1666. 1:28:35

find that lady we're gonna we're gonna

  1667. 1:28:36

    find that guy

  1668. 1:28:37

    [Music]

  1669. 1:28:39

you know everyone from what chris

  1670. 1:28:42

    said i think i finally

  1671. 1:28:45

    understood where that

  1672. 1:28:48

sentiment is coming from i think i i

  1673. 1:28:52

    will side with

  1674. 1:28:52

chris here with regards to the cultural

  1675. 1:28:55

    inappropriation i

  1676. 1:28:57

i can see the side of that phil um

  1677. 1:28:59

    granted

  1678. 1:29:00

about that uh kind of uh cultural

  1679. 1:29:04

inappropriation on using the barca the

  1680. 1:29:06

    term

  1681. 1:29:07

anyway let's go back to the topic again

  1682. 1:29:09

    operation

  1683. 1:29:11

i really want to learn more about the

  1684. 1:29:13

races is it are you easily offended

  1685. 1:29:16

are you easily offended i would say uh

  1686. 1:29:20

it i mean if i said yes you know

  1687. 1:29:22

    whatever

  1688. 1:29:23

i i just feel like uh if somebody would

  1689. 1:29:26

offend me would have to hit my personal

  1690. 1:29:27

    values

  1691. 1:29:28

like if they you know talked about i

  1692. 1:29:30

don't know god or jesus i just pray for

  1693. 1:29:32

    everybody so

  1694. 1:29:33

    i don't know i don't get offended and i

  1695. 1:29:35

take things with a grain of salt so if

  1696. 1:29:36

somebody gonna talk smack i'm like oh

  1697. 1:29:38

maybe he's having a bad day

  1698. 1:29:39

because i need to be positive to

  1699. 1:29:41

    continue to create and build

  1700. 1:29:42

if i let that affect me it affects all

  1701. 1:29:44

my work and i don't like that

  1702. 1:29:48

okay because i want to play a game here

  1703. 1:29:52

    the name of the game

  1704. 1:29:56

that's just no no no this is just

  1705. 1:29:59

alive this is no longer james this mr

  1706. 1:30:02

    james beam

  1707. 1:30:11

on how we can tackle uh

  1708. 1:30:14

racism in uh in a light manner

  1709. 1:30:18

especially for on the filipino directed

  1710. 1:30:21

    racism directed to the filipinos

  1711. 1:30:24

so let's play a game on rape the racist

  1712. 1:30:29

    let's let's let's uh

  1713. 1:30:35

    named ray the racist

  1714. 1:30:40

this is just basically we will just

  1715. 1:30:45

you rate the racism from one

  1716. 1:30:48

from zero to five if uh it's a racist

  1717. 1:30:52

    term

  1718. 1:30:53

then you rate it as five and then if

  1719. 1:30:56

    it's not

  1720. 1:30:57

that racist you raise you rate is it

  1721. 1:31:00

    as zero so we will

  1722. 1:31:03

throw in racial filipino slurs is it is

  1723. 1:31:07

it okay chris if we play this game just

  1724. 1:31:09

    uh

  1725. 1:31:10

light uh perspective on uh racism

  1726. 1:31:13

    towards filipinos

  1727. 1:31:15

sure um if we throw in some

  1728. 1:31:19

um words james i just want to clarify

  1729. 1:31:22

that these are words or phrases that

  1730. 1:31:24

    james

  1731. 1:31:25

uses all the time so actually

  1732. 1:31:28

all the time so this is actually if

  1733. 1:31:30

    james is racist

  1734. 1:31:32

    [Laughter]

  1735. 1:31:37

and actually james is testing that uh

  1736. 1:31:40

words to siri and siri answered racist

  1737. 1:31:43

    [Laughter]

  1738. 1:31:46

please stop james you're drunk again

  1739. 1:31:50

you're on the comment section you can

  1740. 1:31:52

    you can uh

  1741. 1:31:53

    you can um

  1742. 1:31:56

uh suggest words that are stereotypes of

  1743. 1:31:59

    the filipinos and uh

  1744. 1:32:01

chris will let us know if that

  1745. 1:32:04

phrase is uh racist you can also

  1746. 1:32:06

    contribute chris

  1747. 1:32:08

if there are terms that are really

  1748. 1:32:09

    offensive to filipino americans there

  1749. 1:32:12

yeah because there are a lot of terms

  1750. 1:32:13

here yeah we just want to know

  1751. 1:32:16

yeah movement go ahead i mean we just

  1752. 1:32:18

want to be educated about some terms

  1753. 1:32:20

because there are a lot of terms that

  1754. 1:32:21

are used there that we don't hear you

  1755. 1:32:26

just uh we just want to

  1756. 1:32:29

uh we just want to know what are

  1757. 1:32:32

    the phrases that phil elms

  1758. 1:32:36

    um get offended about

  1759. 1:32:39

yes so so we can use them to filipino

  1760. 1:32:42

    american basketball players

  1761. 1:32:45

    i'm just kidding

  1762. 1:32:49

if for example for example i'm walking

  1763. 1:32:51

    by you and i saw

  1764. 1:32:53

i saw a filipino and then i will yell at

  1765. 1:32:56

    hey go eat some balut

  1766. 1:33:00

is that uh how would you rate that uh

  1767. 1:33:02

    racial uh

  1768. 1:33:04

    that phrase five

  1769. 1:33:08

five that is a racist term if how about

  1770. 1:33:12

philippines but in the philippines but

  1771. 1:33:14

in the philippines if someone says

  1772. 1:33:16

not to a filipino he will actually buy

  1773. 1:33:18

    baloo

  1774. 1:33:20

    exactly

  1775. 1:33:31

    [Music]

  1776. 1:33:41

    offensive to filipino americans

  1777. 1:33:44

because it's very hard to find balloons

  1778. 1:33:47

    you know it's like

  1779. 1:33:48

why why do you put the balloon in my

  1780. 1:33:50

    head

  1781. 1:33:51

where am i going to find balloon now now

  1782. 1:33:53

    i'm craving for balut

  1783. 1:33:54

    oh [ __ ] you racist

  1784. 1:33:56

    [Laughter]

  1785. 1:33:58

so chris that will be offensive if that

  1786. 1:34:00

    is

  1787. 1:34:01

if that phrase came from a non-filipino

  1788. 1:34:06

uh 100 percent if that came from

  1789. 1:34:09

    uh a philippine also

  1790. 1:34:13

then if it if it came from a filipino

  1791. 1:34:17

    then you know you you

  1792. 1:34:18

you know it would just it would depend

  1793. 1:34:21

on the context i mean a filipino

  1794. 1:34:23

who had a ballot in his hand

  1795. 1:34:25

    [Laughter]

  1796. 1:34:31

    he got for you

  1797. 1:34:34

aaron said here in the comment if

  1798. 1:34:36

someone will shout hey eat balut

  1799. 1:34:37

    and that's a balut bender

  1800. 1:34:42

    you're good that's perfect that's good

  1801. 1:34:44

    business

  1802. 1:34:46

chris what's the most filipinos in l.a

  1803. 1:34:52

what's the most common derogatory word

  1804. 1:34:55

    they use on filipinos

  1805. 1:34:56

    slam i

  1806. 1:35:00

actually not much i've heard that before

  1807. 1:35:03

it was something called a flip

  1808. 1:35:04

you know it was like slang for filipino

  1809. 1:35:07

or something but now they don't even use

  1810. 1:35:08

    that they just

  1811. 1:35:09

the most derogatory word is calling us

  1812. 1:35:11

another race that's other than filipino

  1813. 1:35:13

    like

  1814. 1:35:14

    stereotype chinese or something just

  1815. 1:35:17

like what jobber trying a senior on the

  1816. 1:35:19

    comments said chris

  1817. 1:35:20

this is common to me when i was in the

  1818. 1:35:22

    u.s

  1819. 1:35:23

they call me chinese even though i'm a

  1820. 1:35:25

filipino this did you experience this

  1821. 1:35:27

    also

  1822. 1:35:29

absolutely yes i experienced that all

  1823. 1:35:31

    the time

  1824. 1:35:34

yeah how about if i walk to you

  1825. 1:35:37

and i saw a filipino and then i say hey

  1826. 1:35:40

    you have a small

  1827. 1:35:41

penis what is a rate what's

  1828. 1:35:44

the rating of that that's also a a five

  1829. 1:35:48

a definitely that's awesome unless that

  1830. 1:35:51

    if you're also

  1831. 1:35:52

unless the person was shouting this to

  1832. 1:35:55

    you

  1833. 1:35:56

    is your ex-girlfriend then there's a

  1834. 1:35:59

    slight

  1835. 1:36:00

and that's zero to that rgb

  1836. 1:36:04

rgb the bender of the ballot

  1837. 1:36:13

how about this uh hey filipino

  1838. 1:36:17

can you sing and dance for me five

  1839. 1:36:22

that's also a five so because teach

  1840. 1:36:24

    rodriguez here in the comment

  1841. 1:36:26

how about kung pakan tahin or pasayowin

  1842. 1:36:28

    pinoy abroad because

  1843. 1:36:32

is we are a performer so even if it's a

  1844. 1:36:35

    compliment it's still

  1845. 1:36:36

    a racist uh slur

  1846. 1:36:41

yes i i would say so because uh you know

  1847. 1:36:44

what if the person doesn't sing at all

  1848. 1:36:45

and you know you're saying hey you can

  1849. 1:36:47

    sing

  1850. 1:36:50

    hey filipino

  1851. 1:36:53

come yes box with me like money pacquiao

  1852. 1:36:59

    live again these seem like

  1853. 1:37:04

    so danny

  1854. 1:37:07

    [Laughter]

  1855. 1:37:11

you see you see this is a this is an

  1856. 1:37:14

eye-opening experience for all of us

  1857. 1:37:16

so um every filipinos that are

  1858. 1:37:20

listening that are based here in the

  1859. 1:37:23

    philippines that are natives here

  1860. 1:37:25

    will understand what what is

  1861. 1:37:29

racism is so if you are

  1862. 1:37:32

    basically if you are generalizing

  1863. 1:37:35

    generalizing

  1864. 1:37:38

that means you are a racist

  1865. 1:37:40

    [Music]

  1866. 1:37:42

actually and if you are not

  1867. 1:37:45

i'm looking at looking at a person

  1868. 1:37:49

the uniqueness of that person then you

  1869. 1:37:52

    are a racist

  1870. 1:37:56

    valentine's areas are really good

  1871. 1:37:58

    questions are racial microaggressions

  1872. 1:38:00

    worse than blatant racial slurs

  1873. 1:38:03

wow that is uh that's a google question

  1874. 1:38:08

that is our director by the way uh

  1875. 1:38:11

yeah chris um the first part of it was

  1876. 1:38:15

    explaining um

  1877. 1:38:16

    i i think a person that's not educated

  1878. 1:38:19

is a dangerous thing because they

  1879. 1:38:21

    continue to keep doing it

  1880. 1:38:22

versus a blatant racial slur which is

  1881. 1:38:26

    obviously probably caused from

  1882. 1:38:27

    aggression or some sort of

  1883. 1:38:29

uh frustration so i would say yes

  1884. 1:38:32

and agree that the first um the primary

  1885. 1:38:35

    is is yes

  1886. 1:38:36

is worse than than someone just saying

  1887. 1:38:38

    something out of anger because

  1888. 1:38:40

um i don't know when you're not aware of

  1889. 1:38:41

the problem that you keep doing you just

  1890. 1:38:43

    keep doing it

  1891. 1:38:47

what what's the what's the worst

  1892. 1:38:49

    offensive

  1893. 1:38:51

uh phrase that you encounter someone

  1894. 1:38:54

    said to you

  1895. 1:38:56

um or someone said to you if in terms of

  1896. 1:39:00

    uh racism

  1897. 1:39:01

you know just chinese guy or [ __ ]

  1898. 1:39:05

or something like that i mean but no

  1899. 1:39:06

    one's ever been like hey you [ __ ]

  1900. 1:39:08

they've kind of just like in a

  1901. 1:39:10

conversation you know chinks or you know

  1902. 1:39:12

and i'm like oh man like why you

  1903. 1:39:13

generalizing me is that man i'm filipino

  1904. 1:39:15

    so

  1905. 1:39:16

uh you know it's just uh i just hope it

  1906. 1:39:19

doesn't get to a point where it gets

  1907. 1:39:20

    worse but

  1908. 1:39:21

you know with everything happening in

  1909. 1:39:22

the country here in america it's getting

  1910. 1:39:23

    worse

  1911. 1:39:25

oh yeah because i heard one of the

  1912. 1:39:27

    comedians said

  1913. 1:39:28

    i i think it's bilber that

  1914. 1:39:32

    um racism

  1915. 1:39:35

um usually comes from a very subtle

  1916. 1:39:40

uh way it's not that kind of aggression

  1917. 1:39:44

    usually it's it's very quiet it's really

  1918. 1:39:47

    it's very

  1919. 1:39:48

    it's uh it's just a conversation between

  1920. 1:39:51

    two people and

  1921. 1:39:52

not like what i demonstrated a while ago

  1922. 1:39:55

    that you

  1923. 1:39:56

that someone is calling you out so you

  1924. 1:39:58

    usually racism comes from

  1925. 1:40:01

    um just a normal conversation

  1926. 1:40:05

so um here are some of the

  1927. 1:40:08

um questions here uh are you offended if

  1928. 1:40:11

    they call you jungle asian

  1929. 1:40:15

i'm not offended easily so you know i

  1930. 1:40:17

just will go that guy's having a bad day

  1931. 1:40:20

so no i'm not offended but it could be

  1932. 1:40:21

offensive yes definitely to a lot of

  1933. 1:40:23

    people

  1934. 1:40:23

how how about this from fade long boy

  1935. 1:40:29

    pacific islander

  1936. 1:40:32

    [Music]

  1937. 1:40:34

i would say that those are people

  1938. 1:40:36

because i even me you know i took a a

  1939. 1:40:39

    test

  1940. 1:40:39

before when i was young you know like

  1941. 1:40:40

sat nine tests like all these like

  1942. 1:40:42

school test scholastic tests and the

  1943. 1:40:44

first question is what do you identify

  1944. 1:40:45

    yourself

  1945. 1:40:46

as it's like asian pacific islander

  1946. 1:40:48

    before i don't even remember

  1947. 1:40:50

pacific islander was a choice it was

  1948. 1:40:51

just asian then they had pacific

  1949. 1:40:53

    islander and i'm like uh

  1950. 1:40:54

asian pacific islander which one is it

  1951. 1:40:56

obviously i pick pacific islander when

  1952. 1:40:58

    that shows up so

  1953. 1:40:59

um i think it's just more specificity

  1954. 1:41:02

like people are being a bit more

  1955. 1:41:03

specific with what they are and that's a

  1956. 1:41:04

    good thing

  1957. 1:41:06

how about this uh jobert chris how about

  1958. 1:41:09

this sorry man we don't deserve rice

  1959. 1:41:11

    here

  1960. 1:41:12

how would you rate that we don't serve

  1961. 1:41:15

we don't serve you sorry we don't

  1962. 1:41:17

    deserve we saw

  1963. 1:41:19

    you don't serve rice here

  1964. 1:41:22

it would depend if uh you know i'd give

  1965. 1:41:23

that a zero or a five because if the

  1966. 1:41:25

person was like hey you know you guys

  1967. 1:41:27

got rice that i can get with my food

  1968. 1:41:28

and if he goes hey we got no rice here

  1969. 1:41:30

that's not racist but if i walk into the

  1970. 1:41:32

    store

  1971. 1:41:33

and immediately he goes hey man we got

  1972. 1:41:34

    no rice here that's racist

  1973. 1:41:38

    nothing

  1974. 1:41:43

    sir chris yeah

  1975. 1:41:52

i didn't want to order adobo and then

  1976. 1:41:54

don't get any rice with it

  1977. 1:41:57

akisama gaming sir chris have you tried

  1978. 1:42:00

    being called a [ __ ]

  1979. 1:42:02

in your workplace ooh uh never been

  1980. 1:42:05

    called it a beautiful

  1981. 1:42:06

workplace uh so yeah no never been

  1982. 1:42:09

    called it

  1983. 1:42:12

no no uh you were opening your mouth

  1984. 1:42:15

    again he was just breathing

  1985. 1:42:21

are you eating with my mouth because

  1986. 1:42:23

there's a lot of blood in my

  1987. 1:42:25

    uh inside my nose

  1988. 1:42:28

is that is that a stereotype uh if if

  1989. 1:42:31

someone a white asian oh your nose is

  1990. 1:42:34

    bleeding because of the english

  1991. 1:42:37

    oh uh

  1992. 1:42:40

i mean i've i've never heard that one

  1993. 1:42:42

but if they mean in an offensive way yes

  1994. 1:42:44

    it would

  1995. 1:42:44

    it would be racist usually

  1996. 1:42:56

usually if that's uh like what gb said a

  1997. 1:43:00

    while ago

  1998. 1:43:01

if it comes from hate even if it's not a

  1999. 1:43:05

    stereotype

  2000. 1:43:07

it will be it will be racist

  2001. 1:43:11

yes i agree that a hundred percent yes

  2002. 1:43:15

yeah do you have any more questions for

  2003. 1:43:17

    chris

  2004. 1:43:21

is donald trump essential i mean if he

  2005. 1:43:23

    loses in

  2006. 1:43:24

november do you think things up when it

  2007. 1:43:26

    comes to racism would improve

  2008. 1:43:28

    wow that's uh that's a very interesting

  2009. 1:43:31

    question woman

  2010. 1:43:33

just your personal view man you're just

  2011. 1:43:34

    asking yes

  2012. 1:43:36

if you loses uh would racism improve um

  2013. 1:43:40

i think right now we're seeing uh

  2014. 1:43:43

a really i mean the cause of this influx

  2015. 1:43:46

    of racism

  2016. 1:43:47

on asians is is mostly happening from

  2017. 1:43:50

    this coronavirus right

  2018. 1:43:52

uh when when um uh 911 was

  2019. 1:43:55

was hit uh attacked here in the united

  2020. 1:43:58

    states

  2021. 1:43:58

uh you know of course any um person from

  2022. 1:44:02

    the middle east

  2023. 1:44:02

would would receive some sort of racial

  2024. 1:44:04

hate here too to a point where even if

  2025. 1:44:06

you got on a plane next to somebody from

  2026. 1:44:08

the middle east you'd be like oh man you

  2027. 1:44:10

    know

  2028. 1:44:10

just because of the the lack of

  2029. 1:44:12

    information and

  2030. 1:44:14

learning just because you're you know

  2031. 1:44:15

and i think right now a lot of these

  2032. 1:44:17

different cultures like all right you

  2033. 1:44:19

    know

  2034. 1:44:19

who came here from wuhan or you know

  2035. 1:44:21

they're asking all these questions you

  2036. 1:44:22

    know

  2037. 1:44:23

    um and you know it's it's it's it's a

  2038. 1:44:26

    it's a virus that's spread so

  2039. 1:44:28

if we have biden or if you have someone

  2040. 1:44:29

else i think we'll still have a racism

  2041. 1:44:31

    problem

  2042. 1:44:32

um you i'm not for or against trump i'm

  2043. 1:44:35

just saying that you know racism is such

  2044. 1:44:36

    a

  2045. 1:44:37

a strong thing that's developing and

  2046. 1:44:39

    snowballing

  2047. 1:44:40

yeah where do you think it is rooted

  2048. 1:44:43

    from

  2049. 1:44:45

i think it's rooted from fear as well as

  2050. 1:44:47

    also

  2051. 1:44:48

ignorance and lack of uh wanting to

  2052. 1:44:51

    learn more

  2053. 1:44:52

right yeah because yeah because wayne

  2054. 1:44:55

    look ban

  2055. 1:44:55

here is asking sir chris just want to

  2056. 1:44:58

know if you heard someone being racist

  2057. 1:45:00

    what do you do

  2058. 1:45:01

do you educate them about it or

  2059. 1:45:03

    something else

  2060. 1:45:05

uh great question if somebody's being

  2061. 1:45:08

    racist

  2062. 1:45:09

it depends what i'm doing in the

  2063. 1:45:11

    situation so

  2064. 1:45:13

if it's a situation where i can talk to

  2065. 1:45:15

that person yes obviously i would say

  2066. 1:45:17

    i wouldn't say hey don't say that i

  2067. 1:45:19

    would say something like

  2068. 1:45:20

i'd ask him why they said that and i try

  2069. 1:45:23

    to understand why

  2070. 1:45:24

and when i get to the core reason that's

  2071. 1:45:26

where i could give my feedback and input

  2072. 1:45:28

    to hopefully change his mind

  2073. 1:45:29

but if you want to keep if he wants to

  2074. 1:45:31

keep his ways i'll i'll let them

  2075. 1:45:32

continue to do what they do

  2076. 1:45:33

at least i did my effort and also chris

  2077. 1:45:36

um how is the filipino community

  2078. 1:45:40

affected by the black lives matter

  2079. 1:45:42

uh movement um it's it's i've seen it

  2080. 1:45:46

    two ways

  2081. 1:45:46

i've seen you know the support go in

  2082. 1:45:50

and you know we want to help them so

  2083. 1:45:51

that you know there is no

  2084. 1:45:53

more racial attacks on black people and

  2085. 1:45:56

less black people can be killed

  2086. 1:45:57

and i've also seen filipinos like i want

  2087. 1:46:00

to help but then you know you see a

  2088. 1:46:01

bunch of attacks on asians and they're

  2089. 1:46:03

    like oh

  2090. 1:46:03

well we'll back off right now you know

  2091. 1:46:05

it's like we were helping we're fighting

  2092. 1:46:07

    alongside them

  2093. 1:46:08

and then i'm we're seeing all these

  2094. 1:46:10

    attacks now on on

  2095. 1:46:11

asians so they're you know some people

  2096. 1:46:13

are even being upset like you know so

  2097. 1:46:15

    it's

  2098. 1:46:15

it's going three different ways if you

  2099. 1:46:17

    will

  2100. 1:46:19

    um world's amazing videos asking

  2101. 1:46:22

    the question

  2102. 1:46:29

uh i think world's amazing videos uh

  2103. 1:46:31

    came in late because

  2104. 1:46:33

chris chris soriano is a director

  2105. 1:46:38

    uh writer and um um

  2106. 1:46:42

producer of dynasty boy i'm producer

  2107. 1:46:44

    also

  2108. 1:46:45

yes uh of dynasty boys which is a new

  2109. 1:46:48

film that is going to be shown in the

  2110. 1:46:50

    philippines and the name

  2111. 1:46:52

in the u.s in the near future and this

  2112. 1:46:56

    tackles about racism among filipino

  2113. 1:46:59

    americans

  2114. 1:47:00

anyway uh we have a lot of questions

  2115. 1:47:02

    here i told you chris

  2116. 1:47:04

    filipinos are very uh interested

  2117. 1:47:08

about racism here and also this is a

  2118. 1:47:10

    question

  2119. 1:47:11

how could racism be a positive thing

  2120. 1:47:16

um i think the only if there is a

  2121. 1:47:18

    positive thing about racism

  2122. 1:47:20

it shows that there's a problem and and

  2123. 1:47:23

a lack of understanding and leadership

  2124. 1:47:26

amongst the masses of people because you

  2125. 1:47:28

    know

  2126. 1:47:29

if if this continues to snowball you

  2127. 1:47:31

have to look at what's leadership

  2128. 1:47:32

doing to help educate people about this

  2129. 1:47:35

    tough issue

  2130. 1:47:36

so that's probably the only positive

  2131. 1:47:38

thing i could see out of it

  2132. 1:47:39

because it's such a negative thing you

  2133. 1:47:41

    know you can't really

  2134. 1:47:43

see a benefit in someone saying go eat

  2135. 1:47:44

below it like it's kind of hard

  2136. 1:47:48

yeah um chris there is a comment here

  2137. 1:47:51

    um mugging expert racism

  2138. 1:47:55

    expert big lassie chris

  2139. 1:47:59

we just want to get the point of view

  2140. 1:48:02

    yeah absolutely chris

  2141. 1:48:04

if we ever get into trouble because of

  2142. 1:48:06

racism we're just gonna quote you chris

  2143. 1:48:08

it's okay he said it's okay to say

  2144. 1:48:12

    perfect blame it on me

  2145. 1:48:16

    um

  2146. 1:48:30

    um

  2147. 1:48:33

    [Music]

  2148. 1:48:44

    [Laughter]

  2149. 1:48:48

chris was asking how we accept uh

  2150. 1:48:51

filipino americans when they visit the

  2151. 1:48:53

    philippines do we accept

  2152. 1:48:55

do we you know give them the same

  2153. 1:48:59

    hospitality or for me

  2154. 1:49:03

i think we accept them with open arms i

  2155. 1:49:05

    think

  2156. 1:49:06

yes actually we do you know and unless

  2157. 1:49:09

    uh

  2158. 1:49:10

the only time we have a problem with

  2159. 1:49:11

films is that when when our crash in the

  2160. 1:49:14

    neighborhood

  2161. 1:49:15

is actually calling falling in love with

  2162. 1:49:17

    the philan

  2163. 1:49:18

and that's the only time we that's the

  2164. 1:49:20

    only time we're like ah

  2165. 1:49:21

you go back to your country

  2166. 1:49:23

    [Laughter]

  2167. 1:49:27

but filipinos actually we are generally

  2168. 1:49:30

    from my experience

  2169. 1:49:31

from from from my family you know some

  2170. 1:49:34

    of my family

  2171. 1:49:34

uh are in the u.s also and they're mixed

  2172. 1:49:38

    now

  2173. 1:49:38

and uh and then they come and visit and

  2174. 1:49:41

    then we actually

  2175. 1:49:43

show them the philippines you know

  2176. 1:49:44

    because it's it's not every

  2177. 1:49:47

like they don't get to visit all the

  2178. 1:49:48

time so i think that's the reason why

  2179. 1:49:50

when you come home your your family will

  2180. 1:49:53

be excited to show you around

  2181. 1:49:55

and then the people around in the

  2182. 1:49:57

neighborhood will actually invite you to

  2183. 1:49:58

    drink and sing with them

  2184. 1:50:00

oh wow things you will experience no no

  2185. 1:50:04

no real hate really no hate when when

  2186. 1:50:06

    filipino americans

  2187. 1:50:08

i think the only problem is that when

  2188. 1:50:09

when the problem is that when there are

  2189. 1:50:12

    some titans that will be

  2190. 1:50:13

you know visiting the us for for a short

  2191. 1:50:16

    period of time

  2192. 1:50:17

like six months they come come back home

  2193. 1:50:20

and then they start they start comparing

  2194. 1:50:23

    life

  2195. 1:50:23

in the in the us and the philippines you

  2196. 1:50:25

know like oh in the u.s it's not like

  2197. 1:50:27

    this huh

  2198. 1:50:29

oh my god you know no

  2199. 1:50:32

    no it's there's no traffic it's

  2200. 1:50:35

    something like that's that's when it's

  2201. 1:50:36

really painful to the ears when they

  2202. 1:50:38

    start

  2203. 1:50:38

oh the filipinos are not disciplined

  2204. 1:50:41

    like that oh yes

  2205. 1:50:42

something like that yes you know but but

  2206. 1:50:46

that's the only thing we are you

  2207. 1:50:49

    familiar with that chris

  2208. 1:50:50

do you do you have p do you know people

  2209. 1:50:52

    who do that fellow filipinos

  2210. 1:50:55

yes uh yeah fellow filipinos that

  2211. 1:50:58

    compare

  2212. 1:50:58

you know yeah they usually compare the

  2213. 1:51:00

    us to the philippines

  2214. 1:51:01

especially when they're here yeah yeah

  2215. 1:51:05

    i've

  2216. 1:51:05

you know family friends you know

  2217. 1:51:07

definitely i'll hear them compare all

  2218. 1:51:09

    the time from fashion

  2219. 1:51:10

to the malls to everything to traffic um

  2220. 1:51:14

yeah and that's why i'm trying to

  2221. 1:51:15

    understand more the dynamic

  2222. 1:51:17

if like filipino americans go there

  2223. 1:51:18

because i've even met you know uh

  2224. 1:51:21

uh filipinos that have come here uh and

  2225. 1:51:24

you know they're like man you know um

  2226. 1:51:26

you know they're not really including me

  2227. 1:51:28

into everything like i remember a guy

  2228. 1:51:31

    from high school

  2229. 1:51:32

um he came here from the philippines and

  2230. 1:51:34

    he's like yeah you know

  2231. 1:51:35

um they're treating me they're calling

  2232. 1:51:38

me fob they're they're not hanging out

  2233. 1:51:40

    with me because you know

  2234. 1:51:41

and then i always looked at that and met

  2235. 1:51:43

i would be like damn you speak two

  2236. 1:51:45

languages i don't even speak tagalog

  2237. 1:51:46

i mean you shouldn't listen to anybody

  2238. 1:51:48

calling you a fob or anything like that

  2239. 1:51:50

that's just rude on their part so

  2240. 1:51:52

    anyways yeah i think james is a it's a

  2241. 1:51:55

case to race basis we don't

  2242. 1:51:57

have to generalize that all filipino

  2243. 1:51:59

    americans are like that

  2244. 1:52:01

yeah but i think the the root of

  2245. 1:52:04

why uh philippe filipinos in the

  2246. 1:52:07

    philippines

  2247. 1:52:08

    view the philanths as mayabang

  2248. 1:52:11

is because of their being uh

  2249. 1:52:15

    straightforward filipinos he

  2250. 1:52:18

here being uh uh hate being

  2251. 1:52:21

    straightforward and being

  2252. 1:52:23

because we tend to be so timid and shy

  2253. 1:52:26

    and expressing ourselves

  2254. 1:52:28

and since phil phil arms are uh um

  2255. 1:52:32

very used to the american culture

  2256. 1:52:36

direct uh they view it as mayabang

  2257. 1:52:40

they view it as something so i think

  2258. 1:52:42

    that it's just uh

  2259. 1:52:44

ignore again an ignorance and uh

  2260. 1:52:47

misinformation on the part of the

  2261. 1:52:49

    filipinos because

  2262. 1:52:51

    um personally i don't i don't view it as

  2263. 1:52:54

mayaba it will just be a mayabang if it

  2264. 1:52:58

will come from the places where

  2265. 1:53:03

again i will not continue that sentence

  2266. 1:53:06

    because it

  2267. 1:53:06

because it will be a controversial

  2268. 1:53:14

    cheers anyway anyway chris

  2269. 1:53:18

um i'm just curious why why did you

  2270. 1:53:22

    choose school pals to

  2271. 1:53:24

promote your field because i i really

  2272. 1:53:27

want to bond and learn more

  2273. 1:53:28

uh and immerse myself with you know my

  2274. 1:53:30

    fellow filipinos and

  2275. 1:53:32

you know if i were to get on you know

  2276. 1:53:34

abs-cb uncovered us they did a segment

  2277. 1:53:36

    on us

  2278. 1:53:36

i was so thankful but i think the the

  2279. 1:53:39

    community

  2280. 1:53:40

is where it matters like hearing you

  2281. 1:53:41

guys reminds me of hanging out with my

  2282. 1:53:43

    cousins

  2283. 1:53:44

and you know we're just talking and you

  2284. 1:53:45

know i love that and i want more

  2285. 1:53:47

    experiences like that and

  2286. 1:53:48

like i told you hopefully when we meet

  2287. 1:53:50

again um i'll be fluent tagalog so that

  2288. 1:53:52

i could put in my work and you know

  2289. 1:53:54

really learn the culture and and you

  2290. 1:53:56

know i really enjoy this that's why

  2291. 1:54:00

yeah chris i i saw in your tailor that

  2292. 1:54:03

uh you need support for your film

  2293. 1:54:06

do you still need support um yes

  2294. 1:54:09

everything we made on our trailer was

  2295. 1:54:10

    for free

  2296. 1:54:11

so um support meaning uh if anybody

  2297. 1:54:14

    wants to share it

  2298. 1:54:15

uh tag a friend that could help um i

  2299. 1:54:18

we're launching this film on something

  2300. 1:54:20

called uh kickstarter which is a

  2301. 1:54:21

    crowdfunding platform

  2302. 1:54:23

so if anybody wants to donate and

  2303. 1:54:25

support our cause we could appreciate

  2304. 1:54:27

    that too

  2305. 1:54:28

so um dynastyvoice.com if anybody wants

  2306. 1:54:31

to share it all the information's there

  2307. 1:54:35

so guys if you want to support

  2308. 1:54:37

    dynastyboys.com just go to dynasty

  2309. 1:54:41

    um i just said diagnostic

  2310. 1:54:44

is that if you want to support the movie

  2311. 1:54:46

dynasty voice go to www dot

  2312. 1:54:50

    dynastyboys.com and all the instructions

  2313. 1:54:52

    are there

  2314. 1:54:53

    right chris yes

  2315. 1:54:56

and we'll make sure about the link

  2316. 1:54:59

on our spotify episode 143 so

  2317. 1:55:03

just scroll onto the the description of

  2318. 1:55:06

    this

  2319. 1:55:06

episode and it will be there and also on

  2320. 1:55:08

the coolpod space we'll make sure that

  2321. 1:55:10

    we promote

  2322. 1:55:11

we help promote your movie uh chris

  2323. 1:55:15

    thank you you are actually

  2324. 1:55:18

a good example to all filipinos not just

  2325. 1:55:20

in the us in the philippines how you

  2326. 1:55:21

    deal with racism

  2327. 1:55:23

how you act on racism how you

  2328. 1:55:26

research first before you react is

  2329. 1:55:28

    something that we should

  2330. 1:55:30

all learn and and practice because

  2331. 1:55:33

it's easy to jump into the bandwagon of

  2332. 1:55:36

    hate

  2333. 1:55:37

and and all these kinds of culture and

  2334. 1:55:39

    we

  2335. 1:55:40

sometimes forget to think first then

  2336. 1:55:43

and research before we actually conclude

  2337. 1:55:46

and say our opinion about certain things

  2338. 1:55:49

    so so

  2339. 1:55:49

uh we're really really happy that we get

  2340. 1:55:53

to talk to you about racism

  2341. 1:55:55

    and everything that's happening right

  2342. 1:55:56

now in the community thank you so much

  2343. 1:55:59

fine words i appreciate that and i

  2344. 1:56:01

    appreciate this

  2345. 1:56:01

what are what are the other ways that

  2346. 1:56:04

the filipinos can support their film

  2347. 1:56:06

    chris aside from sharing it

  2348. 1:56:09

um you know how about financially oh

  2349. 1:56:12

yeah sure that'd be nice if anybody you

  2350. 1:56:15

know wants to donate they can

  2351. 1:56:16

uh you know but um i think that the goal

  2352. 1:56:19

    is

  2353. 1:56:19

um if you have uh ideas for scenes or

  2354. 1:56:22

    anything like that you know

  2355. 1:56:24

we're definitely could include it in the

  2356. 1:56:26

film or find a way if you have a voice

  2357. 1:56:28

    of you know

  2358. 1:56:29

this is how i feel um this would help us

  2359. 1:56:31

    us filipinos

  2360. 1:56:32

uh you know the film is so powerful and

  2361. 1:56:35

it impacts so much lives and i don't

  2362. 1:56:37

    think a lot of people

  2363. 1:56:38

really look at the power of a movie and

  2364. 1:56:40

    so

  2365. 1:56:41

if i can do anything to help filipino

  2366. 1:56:43

americans or even filipinos in the

  2367. 1:56:45

    philippines with

  2368. 1:56:46

what it means to be filipino this is the

  2369. 1:56:48

    time to do it

  2370. 1:56:49

what what's the name of your project in

  2371. 1:56:51

    kickstarter

  2372. 1:56:53

um we're gonna launch that on august 20

  2373. 1:56:56

or september 9th or 7th so

  2374. 1:57:00

all the information will be on the

  2375. 1:57:01

website right now the kickstarter is

  2376. 1:57:02

    still being created

  2377. 1:57:03

uh and we're getting ready to push it

  2378. 1:57:05

out soon in like two to three weeks

  2379. 1:57:08

okay any other any other podcast that

  2380. 1:57:12

    you

  2381. 1:57:12

    emailed uh if

  2382. 1:57:16

ever they are on our same network we can

  2383. 1:57:18

    hook you up

  2384. 1:57:20

oh sure i mean i i called you guys and i

  2385. 1:57:23

    think one other one here

  2386. 1:57:25

so you know i don't really have a

  2387. 1:57:27

    particular

  2388. 1:57:28

  2437. 1:59:13

    up with our

  2438. 1:59:14

also to discuss it with you

  2441. 1:59:22

thank you very much chris for choosing

  2442. 1:59:24

    us

  2443. 1:59:27

for launching for uh promoting your film

  2444. 1:59:31

i think this film will be a bigger

  2445. 1:59:34

a a big help for all

  2446. 1:59:37

our fair arms and als mostly the

  2447. 1:59:40

    filipinos here in the philippines

  2448. 1:59:42

uh who wants to understand more

  2449. 1:59:46

    of what racism is about

  2450. 1:59:51

well said thank you you see the po you

  2451. 1:59:53

    see that pause

  2452. 1:59:54

that was chris i think that's an

  2453. 1:59:57

    audition

  2454. 1:59:58

i think that's an audition real for for

  2455. 2:00:00

    the movie

  2456. 2:00:02

it wasn't like it's not james edition

  2457. 2:00:05

you see a lot of characters on uh james

  2458. 2:00:08

    right

  2459. 2:00:10

yeah let us know if james

  2460. 2:00:13

can be part of the movie and we'll be

  2461. 2:00:15

the ones to shoot him in the face even

  2462. 2:00:16

if it's not on the screen

  2463. 2:00:21

how many how many sequences are left on

  2464. 2:00:23

    your film

  2465. 2:00:24

oh man we have like about an average

  2466. 2:00:27

film around 160 scenes so we still have

  2467. 2:00:29

to shoot quite a bit especially

  2468. 2:00:31

you know it slows us down with the

  2469. 2:00:32

coronavirus um and nobody's filming but

  2470. 2:00:34

    we're still filming so

  2471. 2:00:36

you know i hope we don't get cited or

  2472. 2:00:38

anything like that but we're still going

  2473. 2:00:39

    to keep going

  2474. 2:00:40

you know yeah good luck on that chris

  2475. 2:00:43

    episode i think

  2678. 2:10:24

um you guys are having the initiative to

  2679. 2:10:26

    actually learn

  2680. 2:10:27

and be open to this discussion and um

  2681. 2:10:30

    yeah i mean

  2682. 2:10:31

what you guys mentioned earlier that

  2683. 2:10:32

this is actually a very important i mean

  2684. 2:10:34

    not every filipinos are um

  2685. 2:10:38

as knowledgeable on racism um compared

  2686. 2:10:42

    to us

  2687. 2:10:43

you know see how proud the look of james

  2688. 2:10:44

is direct with what you said james is so

  2689. 2:10:47

    proud

  2690. 2:10:47

look at him look at him such a proud

  2691. 2:10:50

    racist

  2692. 2:10:51

do you think this will make a difference

  2693. 2:10:53

if someone if some filipino racist

  2694. 2:10:57

for example bok noy will listen to this

  2695. 2:11:00

    episode

  2696. 2:11:02

do you think this will open his eyes

  2697. 2:11:05

    regarding this uh the

  2698. 2:11:08

    issue of racism um

  2699. 2:11:12

yeah um i was supposed to ask yeah

  2700. 2:11:15

i was supposed to ask about inter

  2701. 2:11:17

    intersectionality

  2702. 2:11:19

actually because um um it was mentioned

  2703. 2:11:22

    earlier how

  2704. 2:11:24

how filipinos can before that before

  2705. 2:11:26

    that what is

  2706. 2:11:27

what is intersectionality okay so uh

  2707. 2:11:30

    when interesting

  2708. 2:11:31

and what intersectionality means is um

  2709. 2:11:35

how everything is um what's happening

  2710. 2:11:37

    around the world is connected

  2711. 2:11:39

basically um let's say um black lives

  2712. 2:11:42

    matters

  2713. 2:11:43

and then the hong kong protests and here

  2714. 2:11:45

in the philippines we have um

  2715. 2:11:48

basically um upholding our human rights

  2716. 2:11:50

    so how these are

  2717. 2:11:52

    all connected um that's um

  2718. 2:11:55

    that's what interests and

  2719. 2:11:56

intersectionality means and all of that

  2720. 2:11:59

    are connected to human rights

  2721. 2:12:01

so that's a very um a really good

  2722. 2:12:03

    observation there

  2723. 2:12:08

it means now um what it means is that

  2724. 2:12:11

    yeah um someone here mentions

  2725. 2:12:12

    stereotyping

  2726. 2:12:13

um and also on class divide

  2727. 2:12:17

    so discrimination on um

  2728. 2:12:20

what they call this on on your job

  2729. 2:12:24

this is that's his issue right with

  2730. 2:12:25

    bucknoy so

  2731. 2:12:27

    there it's discrimination it's um

  2732. 2:12:31

    um bigotry and hatred yeah

  2733. 2:12:35

and informing yourself how about you

  2734. 2:12:38

what do you think about the

  2735. 2:12:40

    intersectionality

  2736. 2:12:43

oh what about that what about it

  2737. 2:12:53

    [Laughter]

  2738. 2:12:59

    are the filipinos generally

  2739. 2:13:02

    aware about intersectionality or

  2740. 2:13:05

    maturity of the filipinos still

  2741. 2:13:07

believe in everything is connected um

  2742. 2:13:12

no no no um onion paragraph

  2743. 2:13:22

    [Music]

  2744. 2:13:28

    the question was about interesting

  2745. 2:13:29

    intersectionality on

  2746. 2:13:31

uh i know if filipinos are aware yes

  2747. 2:13:35

is that it okay so um filipinos are like

  2748. 2:13:38

    most generally not aware

  2749. 2:13:40

because we are so um we are already

  2750. 2:13:43

    clouded

  2751. 2:13:44

with our very own problems and um

  2752. 2:13:47

you know i'm someone mentioned in the

  2753. 2:13:49

comments earlier that not everyone is um

  2754. 2:13:52

um aware with um i mean in our case

  2755. 2:13:57

philippines is not a culturally diverse

  2756. 2:14:00

    um

  2757. 2:14:00

country i mean we don't have a lot of

  2758. 2:14:01

    them white people i mean

  2759. 2:14:03

amer you know americans black americans

  2760. 2:14:06

    right

  2761. 2:14:06

    um philippine americans mexican

  2762. 2:14:09

    americans but

  2763. 2:14:11

um if we're talking about intersection

  2764. 2:14:14

    intersectionality

  2765. 2:14:15

um we can compare it to um social

  2766. 2:14:18

    classes

  2767. 2:14:19

here in the philippines or our very own

  2768. 2:14:22

um indigenous groups you know um

  2769. 2:14:26

metro manila um what they call this

  2770. 2:14:27

imperial manila there's this term back

  2771. 2:14:29

then i think it still applies today that

  2772. 2:14:31

you know ncr is the center of everything

  2773. 2:14:34

right so um i think we can apply

  2774. 2:14:38

that um the comparison with us

  2775. 2:14:42

so um what what makes it

  2776. 2:14:46

um what makes it hard for filipinos to

  2777. 2:14:49

    realize this

  2778. 2:14:50

    is um i think

  2779. 2:14:55

    um lack of education

  2780. 2:14:58

so maybe that's why um that's why i

  2781. 2:15:00

    asked the question about microaggression

  2782. 2:15:03

these are things now we're not aware

  2783. 2:15:05

    that we're being like

  2784. 2:15:06

say we're doing racist slurs already

  2785. 2:15:08

    we're doing um offensive behavior

  2786. 2:15:10

    because

  2787. 2:15:11

we don't know anything about it we're um

  2788. 2:15:15

    ignorant actually uh

  2789. 2:15:18

    i'm not fully aware

  2790. 2:15:21

of the microaggression can you expound

  2791. 2:15:23

    more of that okay okay

  2792. 2:15:24

    yeah but before we we

  2793. 2:15:28

i never did nothing going episode

  2794. 2:15:31

    additional episode bonus episode

  2795. 2:15:33

    okay okay what on the

  2796. 2:15:37

let's uh let's uh finish first the issue

  2797. 2:15:40

    of

  2798. 2:15:41

intersectionality where do you think it

  2799. 2:15:43

    is rooted from

  2800. 2:15:46

    is it rooted from

  2801. 2:15:51

    [Music]

  2802. 2:15:57

    [Music]

  2803. 2:16:06

the perspective of the filipinos with

  2804. 2:16:09

    first world problems

  2805. 2:16:12

no uh we we don't usually we

  2806. 2:16:15

we set aside the first the problems that

  2807. 2:16:18

    our first world

  2808. 2:16:19

and we just deal with the ones that are

  2809. 2:16:22

    already in our table

  2810. 2:16:25

    so that's why intersectionality

  2811. 2:16:29

    is just put aside as

  2812. 2:16:32

first world problems right right so i

  2813. 2:16:34

    think that's that's where

  2814. 2:16:36

the it is coming from that we don't

  2815. 2:16:39

dwell so much on intersectionality is

  2816. 2:16:41

    that correct direct val

  2817. 2:16:43

yes um because a lot of the um

  2818. 2:16:47

uh the knowledge on class struggles or

  2819. 2:16:51

racial struggles are rooted from western

  2820. 2:16:54

um western education right so most of

  2821. 2:16:57

our ideas let's say of feminism

  2822. 2:17:00

of um lgbt rights of um

  2823. 2:17:03

of racism these are something we learn

  2824. 2:17:06

    from the western culture because

  2825. 2:17:08

    it's not um it's it wasn't really

  2826. 2:17:13

um we are not really familiar about it

  2827. 2:17:15

    until recently

  2828. 2:17:17

so um that's why it's classified as um a

  2829. 2:17:20

    white problem

  2830. 2:17:21

or a first word problem because um we

  2831. 2:17:24

    are a developing country

  2832. 2:17:26

    although um

  2833. 2:17:30

although all of it are just connected i

  2834. 2:17:33

    mean essentially

  2835. 2:17:34

um the problems are all connected

  2836. 2:17:38

someone is uh commenting a lack of

  2837. 2:17:43

    [Laughter]

  2838. 2:18:14

    [Music]

  2839. 2:18:23

    microaggression a new microaggression

  2840. 2:18:27

    um these are racial

  2841. 2:18:29

    [Music]

  2842. 2:18:30

racial slurs or what they call this

  2843. 2:18:35

um behavior that we are not

  2844. 2:18:38

aware that we're doing you know almost

  2845. 2:18:43

example yes yes um you guys were sir

  2846. 2:18:49

    oh man

  2847. 2:18:58

    [Music]

  2848. 2:19:04

types towards asian americans let's say

  2849. 2:19:09

    sorry um

  2850. 2:19:13

so those are you know those are like um

  2851. 2:19:17

    they're they're harmless questions right

  2852. 2:19:19

    i mean it's

  2853. 2:19:20

it's just like curiosity but um

  2854. 2:19:23

on the end on the other end of that

  2855. 2:19:25

    question it's um

  2856. 2:19:26

    you're stereotyping and um

  2857. 2:19:29

that's micro aggression it could be

  2858. 2:19:32

    offensive to them and

  2859. 2:19:35

um this goes to um when you're in

  2860. 2:19:37

    education when you're

  2861. 2:19:39

um let's say in in school with diverse

  2862. 2:19:42

    students um

  2863. 2:19:44

let's say if you're not a white american

  2864. 2:19:46

    um

  2865. 2:19:47

you're classified as you know not

  2866. 2:19:49

    getting ace

  2867. 2:19:50

not getting high grades essentially and

  2868. 2:19:54

that um that's my that's a form of

  2869. 2:19:57

    microaggression

  2870. 2:19:58

    so it's it's um

  2871. 2:20:01

    there's it's very subtle

  2872. 2:20:04

that you don't notice that it is yeah

  2873. 2:20:07

    that you're being racist

  2874. 2:20:08

and um as chris mentioned earlier in in

  2875. 2:20:11

    the recording

  2876. 2:20:13

that it's much worse to be ignorant

  2877. 2:20:16

over being blatantly racist i mean

  2878. 2:20:19

    openly racist

  2879. 2:20:20

because of hatred um okay right

  2880. 2:20:23

    um that's bad um

  2881. 2:20:27

    microaggressions nah hindi

  2882. 2:20:44

    [Music]

  2883. 2:20:53

    [Music]

  2884. 2:20:56

    awareness being racist

  2885. 2:21:00

because um you know it's it's i um

  2886. 2:21:04

it's especially capable in a political

  2887. 2:21:08

    climate

  2888. 2:21:09

um racism is very obvious hatred um

  2889. 2:21:12

    people are actually dying over

  2890. 2:21:14

racism at tapas you're still ignorant

  2891. 2:21:17

    about these issues

  2892. 2:21:18

and on your own very own behavior that

  2893. 2:21:21

    could be

  2894. 2:21:22

offensive to other people that that's

  2895. 2:21:25

    that is

  2896. 2:21:25

so that's why education should be an

  2897. 2:21:27

utmost important when it comes to this

  2898. 2:21:38

    topic

  2899. 2:21:53

    in college there are subjects

  2900. 2:22:06

    person

  2919. 2:29:27

    alone

  2920. 2:29:34

    but

  2921. 2:30:30

  2927. 2:31:47

um if we are still referring to racism

  2928. 2:31:51

um let's say the n word

  2929. 2:31:54

um that roots cassette to um

  2930. 2:31:58

    um a very long place

  2931. 2:32:01

yeah it roots from a negative place it

  2932. 2:32:03

    recruits to

  2933. 2:32:05

um oppression i mean it's roots to

  2934. 2:32:08

a very import important part of

  2935. 2:32:11

um as negative as it is it's a very

  2936. 2:32:14

    important

  2937. 2:32:16

um part of the black history in um

  2938. 2:32:19

uh in america in america for black

  2939. 2:32:22

    americans

  2940. 2:32:23

    so um

  2941. 2:32:28

you know for at least four that's what i

  2942. 2:32:31

    know

  2943. 2:32:31

you know um for the n word

  2944. 2:32:35

we cannot just loosely throw that term

  2945. 2:32:38

when it comes from that kind of um

  2946. 2:32:42

dark place and then it's uh if you look

  2947. 2:32:45

    back to its history

  2948. 2:32:46

    right now sorry

  2955. 2:34:46

about the world and how bad it is

  2957. 2:34:52

because um people have become very

  2971. 2:40:29

    aggressive

  2972. 2:40:31

on educating people over racism you know

  2973. 2:40:34

    sometimes parang

  2974. 2:40:35

it's too much and um we get it

  2975. 2:40:38

not you know it's it really is offensive

  2976. 2:40:41

    but we really should like

  2977. 2:40:42

be mindful denim you know where are

  2978. 2:40:45

    these people coming from but

  2979. 2:41:09

at the same time very sensitive i mean

  2980. 2:41:11

it's you know and heat up

  2981. 2:41:12

    explain some about uh

  2982. 2:41:16

who don't have access to like um

  2983. 2:41:20

to you know experience with firsthand

  2984. 2:41:23

    experience with racism

  2985. 2:41:25

    so it's hard for them

  2986. 2:41:28

    should

  3002. 2:45:56

your jokes not to make fun of you

    outsiders

  3009. 2:47:23

    [Laughter]

  3010. 2:47:32

    um

  3011. 2:48:00

we can categorize things um whether it's

  3012. 2:48:03

    offensive or not

  3013. 2:48:04

depending on context i mean there are

  3014. 2:48:07

    insults

  3015. 2:48:08

based on looks there are insults

  3016. 2:48:11

based on um ability you know ability

  3017. 2:48:16

so let's say um yuma jokes against um

  3018. 2:48:20

pwds um on blind people death

  3019. 2:48:24

and then there are jokes on of course on

  3020. 2:48:26

    mental health

  3021. 2:48:27

um on racism like you know they are part

  3022. 2:48:30

of my hierarchy on what's offensive and

  3023. 2:48:32

what's not but at the same time

  3024. 2:48:34

why should we um do a hierarchy

  3025. 2:48:37

of something that's offensive why can't

  3026. 2:48:39

    we just avoid it

  3027. 2:48:40

    so um it's

  3028. 2:48:44

um in context because if if you see

  3029. 2:48:47

it in um from your point of view for you

  3030. 2:48:52

    comedians

  3031. 2:48:53

this is um a part of the act

  3032. 2:48:56

a part of what you do right pero if you

  3033. 2:48:59

    go

  3034. 2:49:00

out on at least from my end would

  3035. 2:49:03

would i get offended say i'm in a comedy

  3036. 2:49:06

    bar and then you guys

  3037. 2:49:07

um did a joke um nah offensive and stuff

  3038. 2:49:11

would i get offended or would i

  3039. 2:49:13

    um like put myself

  3040. 2:49:16

in the environment i'm in because okay

  3041. 2:49:19

    i'm in a

  3042. 2:49:20

in a comedy bar of course there are

  3043. 2:49:22

    things that

  3044. 2:49:23

you know maybe not in my control or in

  3045. 2:49:25

    society's

  3046. 2:49:26

    um conventional standards about science

  3047. 2:49:29

    conventions on jokes

  3048. 2:49:30

    so yeah i think context

  3049. 2:49:34

sure we should look into context

  3050. 2:49:48

    [Laughter]

  3051. 2:50:20

    um

  3052. 2:50:42

  3053. 2:51:10

  3060. 2:53:37

  3061. 2:53:38

  3062. 2:53:41

    a bad person

  3063. 2:54:04

    oh

  3064. 2:54:35

    [Laughter]

  3065. 2:54:46

    [Music]

  3082. 3:01:04

    um

  3083. 3:01:24

    okay so um what

  3084. 3:01:28

you know in in all forms of media so um

  3085. 3:01:30

    podcasting is

  3086. 3:01:32

    um fairly new to philippines

  3087. 3:01:35

and um of course i think

  3088. 3:01:38

even to the u.s um but it's been

  3089. 3:01:41

    metagalaxius but

  3090. 3:01:42

okay so in philippine context um

  3091. 3:01:46

most forms of media we have a regulatory

  3092. 3:01:49

    board

  3093. 3:01:51

so we have empty rcb we have ceb

  3094. 3:01:55

um for podcasting we don't have so

  3095. 3:01:58

    um that's um

  3096. 3:02:12

towards podcasting but um what we can do

  3097. 3:02:17

is um you know have disclaimers

  3098. 3:02:20

    or parameter safety nets when

  3099. 3:02:24

when we do the program so it's um

  3100. 3:02:28

it's like a mutual responsibility on

  3101. 3:02:30

both the creator and the listener

  3102. 3:02:33

so um um in the first place if

  3103. 3:02:36

    if um say um

  3104. 3:02:45

a podcast with explicit content and then

  3105. 3:02:49

at the same time there are platforms

  3106. 3:02:53

that um denies you know you know

  3107. 3:02:55

    children

  3108. 3:02:56

of my you might not mind or your age

  3109. 3:03:00

is explicit content say um that's let's

  3110. 3:03:02

say it's a platform that then our

  3111. 3:03:05

um our distribution platform anchor we

  3112. 3:03:07

    have um

  3113. 3:03:10

    advertising

  3114. 3:03:24

to um to let the audience know whether

  3115. 3:03:28

it's each you know age awardee

  3116. 3:03:31

regardless now disclaimer in the podcast

  3117. 3:03:34

    itself

  3118. 3:03:38

    old

  3119. 3:03:40

    [Laughter]

  3120. 3:04:03

    [Music]

  3121. 3:04:25

    [Music]

  3125. 3:05:05

want to be my individual selfish

  3126. 3:05:21

    [Music]

  3127. 3:05:41

    [Laughter]

  3128. 3:05:44

    uh

  3129. 3:05:57

i'm coming from you know from um

  3130. 3:06:01

uh an age a generation gap

  3131. 3:06:04

kind of background now um the things you

  3132. 3:06:08

    guys are saying

  3133. 3:06:08

are you know but um you know the

  3134. 3:06:10

difference oh yeah it's common and then

  3135. 3:06:12

in our generation we find it offensive

  3136. 3:06:14

    because

  3137. 3:06:15

at the same time we have um

  3138. 3:06:18

    pc culture political correct uh

  3139. 3:06:20

correctness so we have to be careful of

  3140. 3:06:23

    what we say

  3141. 3:06:24

basically everything we say is being

  3142. 3:06:25

policed um that is something that

  3143. 3:06:28

not not exactly enforced to us

  3144. 3:06:31

    millennials

  3145. 3:06:32

but it's something that we see on social

  3146. 3:06:34

    media

  3147. 3:06:35

on on our peers and our friends on

  3148. 3:06:38

on our very own in our very educational

  3149. 3:06:41

    system i mean

  3150. 3:06:42

teachers i mean professors now you know

  3151. 3:06:44

    maba tabata teachers

  3152. 3:06:45

imposing that kind of ideology towards

  3153. 3:06:47

    us it's um

  3154. 3:06:49

especially in media um i came

  3155. 3:06:52

you know my background is broadcast

  3156. 3:06:54

    communication so

  3157. 3:06:56

um media is um uh you know

  3158. 3:06:59

    constantly changing pabagobago you know

  3159. 3:07:02

    um

  3160. 3:07:03

there are there are offensive content

  3161. 3:07:07

there are you have to be sensitive on

  3162. 3:07:08

    this so i would say

  3163. 3:07:11

i have anything for the question

  3164. 3:07:22

    oh

  3165. 3:07:43

    [Laughter]

  3166. 3:07:50

    i

  3167. 3:07:56

    [Laughter]

  3168. 3:08:00

    offensive for me yes

  3169. 3:08:04

but at the same time um

  3170. 3:08:07

i'm very understanding i'm very open to

  3171. 3:08:10

um you know understanding where you guys

  3172. 3:08:12

    are coming from and

  3173. 3:08:16

    episode episode 24 to episode 143 i'm

  3174. 3:08:19

    still here

  3175. 3:08:20

    then it's i'm learning i'm learning the

  3176. 3:08:23

    ropes

  3177. 3:08:42

    [Laughter]

  3178. 3:08:54

    stand up comedy

  3179. 3:09:28

    sometimes

  3180. 3:09:40

to joke about anything with a fellow

  3181. 3:09:42

    comedian

  3182. 3:09:55

    [Music]

  3183. 3:11:24

when it comes to writing jokes and

  3184. 3:11:27

    sharing jokes

  3185. 3:11:28

um we have a lot of

  3186. 3:11:31

    maturity

  3187. 3:11:40

    [Music]

  3188. 3:11:43

because that will help us with our with

  3189. 3:11:46

    our

  3190. 3:11:47

    craft knowing our audience

  3191. 3:12:00

    [Music]

  3192. 3:12:03

about rape we can talk about suicide

  3193. 3:12:09

    [Music]

  3194. 3:12:12

we can try we can set it up deeply and

  3195. 3:12:15

    do it differently

  3196. 3:12:16

just to push the boundaries to see how

  3197. 3:12:19

far we can go as comedians

  3198. 3:12:21

pero again we will try because it is

  3199. 3:12:24

in us to try to make people laugh

  3200. 3:12:28

however we can so when we get when

  3201. 3:12:32

    people get offended

  3202. 3:12:33

we will we will adjust and we will we

  3203. 3:12:35

    will we will

  3204. 3:12:36

    continue to see us

  3205. 3:12:40

    never to offend

  3206. 3:12:44

    is never to open

  3207. 3:12:58

  3208. 3:14:22

  3218. 3:16:34

  3220. 3:16:38

    age of information at times

  3221. 3:16:40

information is in the palm of our hands

  3222. 3:16:42

    um

  3223. 3:16:43

and um of course really really um

  3224. 3:16:46

    appreciate

  3225. 3:16:47

how this show is um um

  3226. 3:16:50

approaching this kind of discussions um

  3227. 3:16:54

how you guys are very open-minded with

  3228. 3:16:56

    very sensitive topics

  3229. 3:16:58

    and um you know um

  3230. 3:17:02

uh you know being open-minded with um

  3231. 3:17:05

    you know

  3232. 3:17:06

i really hope now whatever this is

  3233. 3:17:09

is not just for the sake of um

  3234. 3:17:13

the trend of political correction or

  3235. 3:17:16

    um pc culture or

  3236. 3:17:19

the trend of racism i hope now it's um

  3237. 3:17:22

for the sake of learning for the sake of

  3238. 3:17:25

    educating yourself

  3239. 3:17:26

    over important issues that um

  3240. 3:17:30

you know it's um matter lives are at

  3241. 3:17:33

    stakes

  3242. 3:17:33

here in um uh human rights as well

  3243. 3:17:38

in yeah and it's so it's a very

  3244. 3:17:41

    important

  3245. 3:17:42

    very um big step

  3246. 3:17:45

    towards to um uh understanding

  3247. 3:17:50

    sensitive topics like this one

  3248. 3:18:25
